I was reading the Globe and Mail on the plane a few weeks back - OK a month ago - and noticed that Thousand Islands Club was up for sale. The course is reputed to be designed by Seth Raynor – but after visiting last year I was left wondering how true that was. There was an alps like par five the was pretty cool and a couple of punchbowl greens that were terrific, but a lot of fairly plain holes as well.
The course is owned by the original founder of Sobe Drinks. When I met him last year, I can't say he was in the golf business because he wanted to be - he was in it because he sort had to be. He bought it to stop it from being closed and broken up for real estate and has continued to operate the course since. I'm guessing that he's got tired of doing so and decided to part with the course.
The 8th green sits down in a bowl
The 15th green falls as a redan but has no bunkers
The 5th - Alps? - second shot is over the hill to a punchbowl green
The 11th famous hole out to the St. Lawrence River
