6615 yards and a Tour venue
« on: August 22, 2008, 11:20:34 AM »
Just noticed that the KLM Dutch Open is being playedat Kennemer on a course measuring just 6615 yards.  Is that the shortest course being played this year on the US or European Tours?  Interestingly the leaders are only 8 under after two rounds.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

It's not like the greens proper are wild, either - but hitting them can be an achievement, especially if they're getting Channel weather.

On the other hand, maybe it is down to the proximity to Amsterdam and to the even closer clothing optional beaches

Mark, how are the conditions (and the crane shots)?

I will try to post a few pics later.

I saw glimpses of play on Sky last night.  It looked pretty windy (although not Birkdale conditions) so I guess that would keep the scoring up.

Mark B - unfortunately Sky did not show any scenes of the optional clothing beaches, although it did not appear to be sunbathing weather.  I shall watch more closely over the weekend!
2014 to date: not actually played anywhere yet!
Still to come: Hollins Hall; Ripon City; Shipley; Perranporth; St Enodoc

I would add Kennemer to the list of courses to play listed in your signature.

I would add Noordwijkse to the "in my dreams" list as their clubhouse is directly adjacent to a very liberal beach. With the tasteful decor in the dining room and bar plus a kid's corner stocked with a Playstation, it's got something for everyone in the family to stare at!

More reasons for a Dutch BUDA 2010?

Or a Bene Buda.  Or just Be. (Kennemer was decent, Noordwijkse could have been more.)

PS Was going to post pictures but then figured anyone who wanted to see could have just looked at the telecast and seen a lot more than a few pics.

Mark, I didn't see the tourney.  If it was 6600 meters, it would be over 7200 yards.  Any chance it was meters?

Cheers

Definitely 6615 yards per European tour website

Mark B
Thanks for the tips re the Dutch courses.  Signature duly amended. My interest had already been raised by the recent threads by Philip Gawith.

I currently have a cunning plan (probably as good as one of Baldrick's) in that my wife is training as a florist and she went to Holland earlier this year as part of her course and stopped near Noordwijkse.  She has suggested that when she goes next I accompany her.  I said I would as long as I could take my clubs!

The above aside BUDA 2010 in Holland sounds an excellent idea!

Here's a link to Philip Gawith's pics of Kennemer:
http://golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,32159.0.html

Looks like he played the two Colt nines; I played the Pennick nine (the "A" nine) and the second Colt nine (the "C" nine).

Ran's review has pics of holes in all three nines.

I will add a few more pics here:

Tee shot A1

Tee shot A2

View of A5 fairway (left) and A6 fairway (right) from A6 tee

View of A9 fairway from forward of tee -- lovely hole

C1 from the tee

Approach to C2 green

I think this is the approach to C5 (my 14th hole)

C6

C9 from tee

Good ground!
