Lloyd - are you playing near Philly?

A similar question:

When are you coming to Houston - I can put your clubs to good use.
I also can recommend where to play...  Smiley

Lloyd is playing in New Hope on Sunday 9/28.

Any Philly area guys interested in going to see him perform?  I am.

Maybe a round at Lederach (or someplace else) that morning too?  Lloyd, can you get out to play Sunday morning as well?

Back to Beechtree.  I can't join up for the October outing.  However,  I just played it for the first time a couple of weeks ago with Mike Nuzzo and it a very fun course. Wide fairways that had a great look/feel from the tee, and big greens with subtle undulations.....and most importantly, a decent breakfast sandwich.

Michael,

I have to get to Atlanta after that show (in my car)!
However, on the way home (to MA) there are opportunities to golf. The 4th at Beechtree being one of them. Anyone wishing to come to shows, PM me. I always have a few comps - if I haven't given them to friends and family GCA bretheren are welcome to them. I will warn you though what a Spanish associate said a few years back - 'Lloyd, you sing better than you swing'. It was golf he was referring to.

I have to disagree with Mike.  Bulle Rock is worth playing although it is overpriced.  Perhaps it isn't Pete Dye's best course, but it is certainly worth playing.

Jerry,
Howdy.
To clarify.
I think Bulle Rock is very worth playing - if there were no Beechtree about to close for good.
If I had 4 rounds it would be Beechtree 4-0 this fall.

If Beechtree weren't closing with 10 rounds it would be Beechtree 8-2.
I'd way rather walk BT vs BR.

Mike: My point is that if people are only going to be in the area one time I think they should not miss BR, unless they feel the price is too high.

I am calling tomorrow for 24 tee times. I suspect everyone will need to phone the club with their own credit cards for their individual spot.

I got five tee times from 12:10 until 12:50 on Oct 4th.  They charged my card for the deposit.  With that said everyone can still pay for the round directly upon check in.

I will send a reminder out in a couple of weeks to get the final count and set up any specific foursomes that want them.

$95 includes cart and range balls.

I'll be driving up the PM of the 3rd (drive should take 6 1/2 hrs from NC)  and there seems to be a bunching of hotels and motels at Aberdeen so I'll just head for that. Anyone else with similar plans PM me, maybe we could get beers and or breakfast.
Philly folk planning to attend the New Hope show might want to know that I'll be at Tin Angel downtown on Nov 14th too. It is a great, tiny little place, I always enjoy the shows there. New Hope I know nothing about other than it's pretty and hotels aint cheap.

My brother is in town during the planned Beechtree gathering, so I won't be making that trip.  If there are some GCA guys going to Lloyd's show on Sept 28 in New Hope, it is a great little town with fantastic restaurants.  I look forward to seeing Lloyd perform at the Tin Angel in November.

So the time has come to commit on Beechtree on October 4th, Saturday, between 12-1PM

Here is the list of commits.  Please let me know if you plan on playing.  I have 5 tee times reserved and we have 7 tee times worth of golfers.  I can try and get 2 more tee times or we may see not everyone on this list commit.  I will wait a few days to see how many RSVPs I get back...so please let know ASAP.

You will pay the shop the day of play, but if we have too many cancels they will ding my credit card so take that into mind. Cool

Chip,

I'm in!

And I want to say how appreciative I am that you are willing to go down market from an architectural standpoint to arrange this gathering.  I'm really excited about Beechtree (never played a Doak) but for you after Augusta, Pine Valley, Oakmont, SFGC, Olympic, Ballyneal, CPC (I know I'm missing some top 20 classic or moderns) ...

Do you ever feel jaded?

Phil-

Great that you are playing.  Beechtree isn't down market...it is a Doak.  My only requirement is do they serve beer Wink

Never jaded, only lucky, very lucky.  It is amazing what a couple of handwritten requests and sincere thank you notes will do from a guy that grew on a one lane brick road, sneaking nine extra holes at the $4 muni in Farmville, NC.  Grin

Carl & Chris - Sorry to miss your removal request.

Send me a PM if you're interested in playing  Hanse's French Creek the day before Beechtree.  The more the merrier!  (We're about 55 miles NNE of Beechtree).

Czaban is on the fence...will confirm or not soon...he asked the question though, "What are the chances Tom Doak might make it?"

Have we even remembered to ask Tom?
