As I type this message I'm preparing my fire retardant suit.  Who on GCA would suggest, oh heavens, Myrtle Beach for a golf trip?!

I'd not been to Myrtle in many years but my group of guys decided to revisit the north end.  Our stay was for 4 days in late Feb into early March for about 600 bucks, staying at the Barefoot condos which are nice accommodations.  No food included, but the places have a kitchen and outside grills if you desire to eat in.  Or visit the Italian restaurant Costano's which is WAY better than your typical MB greasy spoon.  ;)

And for 600 bucks that included 7 rounds of golf.  We played all four courses at Barefoot (each has their moments, IMHO), and also Tidewater, Thistle, and Prestwick.

I think many can get their golf architecture itch scratched by these courses.

If you wish to experience the 7 courses as my eyes and camera saw them, the photo albums are below:

I had fun when I was down there (didn't play Thistle and got eaten alive at Tidewater). I felt Barefoot had cour overall solid golf courses and all on one property makes it all the better.

My biggest surprise was Prestwick. A hidden gem in my opinion.

Joe we went there for five years in a row and I thought it was fun. Tidewater, True Blue and Caledonia were fun tracks. In this era of trying to expand the game I hope you don't get scorched on this post. Always like seeing a new course to see how other architects ply their trade.
We have a pool and a pond, the pond would be good for you.

Thanks Joe...just went though the tours, all pretty cool.

For me, I think the Dye Course at Barefoot is the most compelling golf, by a nose over the Fazio.

After that, just from pictures, it looks to me like I would go Fazio, Love, Norman on the awesomeness scale.  The Norman course looks far from terrible, just more subtle and less memorable.

I was surprised at how boring Tidewater looked...that one always earns high praise.  Prestwick looks blah in pictures.

I have played Thistle, so that is a known commodity...we played all 27 one trip.  Not terrible, but not great either.

My Myrtle experience is not high...Heritage, Legends-Heathland, Pawley's on the Southern end...Thistle, Carolina National, Magnolia Greens, the departed Marsh Harbour on the Northern end.  Will have to get back someday and do Caledonia/True Blue, and a few Barefeet.

So I jump ship in Hong Kong....
