So I'm taking this golf trip...
« on: July 23, 2008, 07:14:31 PM »
As some of you know, I am working this summer as an intern for Renaissance and Tom Doak on their Denver project. I've got a long ride back to Georgia the first week of August, August 8th to be exact, so I decided to try to play the best possible courses along the way. I just mailed handwritten letters to all the clubs below except Wildhorse, but I wanted to see if anyone here could help me. This may be a fo' paw to do ask something like this, but I'm doing it anyways, so call me tacky. My plan is to play all of these courses, two a day, in six days. If anyone is a member or  knows one that would allow me to play, send me a message or post. Here's the list, no laughing, its kinda ballsy...

Ballyneal
Wildhorse
Prairie Dunes
Shawnee Country Club
St. Louis Country Club (may be closed?)
Chicago Golf Club
Shoreacres
Victoria National
Lookout Mountain
Black Creek
The Honors Course
Peachtree

I figured I'll never have the chance to be unhindered by work after this summer, seeing that I'll graduate from UGA, so that's why I went all out. Tom helped me with the contact names and let me name-drop working for the firm, but I felt like this board was another avenue that might lead to some concrete playing dates. If anyone can help, don't hesitate...

(Post deleted because I don't know my northern plains geography and I remain surprised at how slight a detour Indiana is on the way from Denver to Georgia. OK.)

I take it you don't plan on eating or sleeping on this trip.  ;D

I haven't posted on any thread for close to a week.  Golfweek raters and over stretched douche bags should worry about their own access and not use this site to strongarm members of private clubs for other people.  I think Adam should play Quail Crossing while in town to see how not to build a course.

If you don't get to play, I'd encourage you to walk the greats.
You can walk see more than 2 in a day in the right city.

You start out quite strong.  It does seem like the trip needs a grand fanale....

Good Luck.

I thought asking for access is a no no ??
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

I didn't realize this was a Merion thread.  :(

Isn't resorting to name-calling a little over-the-top? Oh, I guess not, in the world of internet anonymity.

Why would you want to end this trip at Peachtree instead of Augusta National???  If I were you I'd veer through Long Island and Philly on the way home.

Isn't Augusta closed in summer?

Great to see you have a sense of humor about this.  You feel strongarmed?  Sorry.  Certainly wasn't the intent.  A little levity on a thread where some new poster gives a list of about 15 of the country's top courses where he sent letters requesting a visit seemed harmless.

If he's actually driving that route, I suggest Audubon in Kentucky.  I think that's what it is called.  Awfully hilly.

John K,

That comment is so absurd it makes my head spin.  It seems to me that you desire to make enemies by posting silly comments like this.  Try to lighten up a bit.

Byron,

Adam had already contacted me privately about playing in response to a public offer I had made.  I am trying to work something out for him.

So today, I find myself standing in line for a flight on Southwest with the dreaded que position of C19 when I decide to check in on this site and find myself accused of ignoring Adam's public request.  After having the pleasure of ignoring this site for the past week I found Garland's comments inappropriate.  Didn't you?

Is this the new standard of Golfclubatlas....You not only must invite everyone to a course where you are a member, you must publically seek approval for doing so?

I'm still traveling and posting off my phone so perhaps I am not being clear but I know members or conacts at every club Adam wishes to access.  You tell me...Are they also guilty in their silence?  Would it be appropriate for me to call them out?  Of course not.  I have been privy to past spam alerts when someone new joins a top 100 club as they virate through the Golfweek network.  It is interesting, informative and disgusting but still valuable on some sick level.  Whatever it is it should remain at the very least private.

JK,

That doesn't exactly seem like harsh criticism? Unless there's something unspoken behind it that I don't know about But to me it just seems like a harmless joke.
