Help Please - Need backup course for Monday in Detroit
« on: August 09, 2008, 08:40:44 PM »
IF they can get all 36 in on Sunday, I will get to play Oakland Hills South on Mon.   If the weather does not cooperate, The PGA Championship could drip to Monday which scuttles the opportunity.  If so, what's a good backup plan for at least a foursome near the DTW airport?

imo the next best course in Detroit (public or private) is Franklin Hills.  In many ways it is better than Oakland Hills.

Jim,
Plum Hollow is a very good Alison routing that uses ravines well.
Franklin Hills is an outstanding Ross gem with numerous great holes.

On the public side:  ROUGE  PARK  has strong/charming architecture replete with elevation changes, an uphill 98 yard par 3 , along with some forced carries over a very wide brook that snakes around. Rouge might set you back $30, but the Demographics in this barrio are not at all like Grosse Pointe or Bronxville.   Have fun wherever you play !

Mark,

Can you compare Rouge Park to say, Rogell. Is it in that poor of shape?

Best Played So Far This Season:
Crystal Downs CC (MI), The Bridge (NY), Canterbury GC (OH), Lakota Links (CO), Montauk Downs (NY), Sedge Valley (WI)
