Sunrise - Highlands Links
Sunset - Pacific Dunes

(actually, sunset at Highlands Links is spectacular, but the drive along the Cabot Trail in the dark is terrifying)

Good idea Ed!  Sunrise at Tobacco Road, Sunset at Pine Needles.

Back in 1999, a bunch of us did Tobacco Road in the morning and Mid-Pines in the afternoon.  Sort of a ridiculous to the sublime if you like.  It was later on that trip that I first learned from John M. of the impending birth of a new website that now takes up way too much of all of our time.

Obviuosly it is way too easy around Monterey for an AM/PM grouping of almost any kind, just as it is on Long Island.

I did an AM Tralee, PM Ballybunion Old once.  There were others in the area that I'd switch in for Tralee, but it wasn't bad.

Oakmont in the AM and Fox Chapel in the PM would be a nice duo.

Jay, what is with this Sunrise, Sunset thing... Do you have to pay royalties to Fiddler on the Roof for starting this thread?   Or, are you looking to rep this Bright Eyes vid producer?  ;D

Pawleys Plantation/Heritage/True Blue sunrise, Caledonia sunset

Tim,
I'm doing the True Blue sunrise/Caledonia sunset in three weeks.  Considering that they are across the street from each other, and yet totally different,  it is a very hard combo to beat.

(In the summer, you also get a huge discount for playing them both the same day. ;D)

AJ- Did it in reverse, Caledonia in AM and True Blue in PM.  Your way may be better as TB is a bit more forgiving and Chas a western water exposure.

Some others I've enjoyed
Birkdale/Lythem-St.Annes
Olympic/SFGC

Ones that I 've played but not in the same day that would workbecause they are both architectually interesting, similar environments but dramically different designs.  Like above, MP is good, pick any 2 (except Poppy Hills) and you can't go wrong

Prestwick/Troon
Fox Hollow/Oakmont
Shore Acres/Onwensia
Desert Highlands/The Boulders South
Coasting is a downhill process

It's a fantastic deal.  It has to be one of the best in public golf.

You might also try a Founders Club sunrise/Heritage Club sunset.  I've heard fairly good things about Founders, and Heritage is another taste of Strantz (he redid the greens a bunch of years ago, I understand).

When I first thought of my jetting west day, I really wondered how many courses around the Planet you could possibly play 'in one day', if you stated at the dateline and flew ahead of the sun after each round. You'de need a very fast one [jet and round], but I am certain Guiness would be interested.  ;D

My own problem is both that I have no access to a jet, and I do not know the courses well enough to know who is near an airport and so on.

Maybe one of you could become famous ...........
