Canadian Open 2010 - St. George's
« on: June 26, 2008, 09:12:51 AM »
Great to hear that the Canadian Open will return to St. George's in 2010 for the first time since 1968.  The players will have to take a shuttle to a makeshift range offsite, but this move to a classic Thompson design will hopefully strengthen the field.

Yes, the RCGA is moving in the right direction these days and moving the Open around to venues like St. George's and Ancaster will only help in the recruitment of top tier talent.

Their slot on the schedule still stinks though.

I've just sent the GM, Joe Murphy and congratulatory e-mail, outstanding news.

I've been worried the right decision may not be made regarding the ability of St. George's to host the Open.

It will certainly be a great venue and event.

I guess we can open up the Tiger debate, who'll be able to get him to commit?

This is great news but as long as this event is the week after The Open Championship then TIger will never come, nor will most of the other top ranked players in the world, unless Jim Furyk keeps winning the event.

Who cares who comes?  The venue must come first for the wing-nut community.  This news provide a more than adequate counterbalance to the idiotic decision on the Euro Tour to quit Wentworth in favor of some Spanish course.

It will be great to see Ian Andrew's work on display, and yes I won't mind seeing them play the bastardized 2nd and 15th -- if awareness of any changes are raised, hopefully it will be for the restoration of the 3rd.

This course selection will probably make the difference in getting me to attend. Can't wait!

Thompson golf holes were created to look as if they had always been there and were always meant to be there.

I only mention the strength of the field for the longer term viability of the event.  The Canadian Open has to a certain degree fallen on hard times as of late, with its move to the week after the Open; last year it was not even broadcast on a Canadian television network.  It was also without a title sponsor until recently.  So it has had some problems with exposure.  Anything to raise the profile of the event is good.
