Adam's Mountain CC -- Eagle, CO (a few photos)
« on: September 05, 2008, 10:44:40 PM »
In going through the archives it appears there is a recent course with nearly no mention here. How'd that happen!?

Not only that, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of said course--Adam's Mountain CC outside Eagle, CO. Its a Tom Weiskopf design and holds its own very well with anything else in that area IMO.

3rd hole, par five with a bunker in the green. Its possible to putt all the way around the bunker, but not possible to put a pin behind the bunker from what I could tell.

6th hole, long downhill par four. Inspiring backdrop, bunker is kind of out of the way, especially from the right side of the fairway.

14th hole, short par five. This photo doesn't really do the shot justice. Cool little par five, this is the approach from a good drive. Good risk/reward situation.

17th hole, another par five. I really like the way the player is encouraged to go for the green on the second shot, because the layup to the left leaves a lousy angle due to the bunker left of the green. There is room to give the green a go from a good drive, but it requires a good shot. Bailing out leaves a strong challenge.

I think Adam's Mountain compares favorably with most of the Weiskopf courses I've seen, except Forest Highlands Canyon. Its very thoughtfully laid out and worth playing if given the opportunity.

116 views and no one has a single thought? Good, bad, indifferent?

Andy,

Perhaps you need to post more photos.  As for myself, other than the green with the bunker in the middle of it, I'm not really seeing anything interesting, but then again, I know that its hard to capture all the countours, elevation, etc in photos.

Kalen,
Maybe I just liked it because its in a nice mountain setting. I tried to pick holes I thought were fairly interesting, granted one photo from each isn't enough to get much of an idea of what the holes are really like.

I get the impression few (if any) GCA'ers have played this one, so that may have something to do with it as well.

Andy,
My thought is the same one I have every time I see some nice photos of a course from the beautiful state of CO.  That thought is, "Man, I miss Colorado."  The course looks nice but I'd prefer to be fishing the Eagle myself.  ;)  The standard knock on Weiskopf is that his greens are rather tame relative to his peers.  Does that hold true at Adam's Mountain?

Cheers,
Brad

Andy,

Very good pictures.

If that is the course just of I-70 it looks like a fun track.  Problem is I'm always choosing hiking over golf in W. Colorado.  Based on your recommendation I'll have to give the course a go sometime.

Brent,
This one is about 3-4 miles south of I-70. Not sure which one you're mentioning that's right off the highway, there are at least a couple. CC of the Rockies is viewable near Edwards and I think Eagle Springs near Wolcott is the other one. You can see the highway from Red Sky, but not sure if you can see the couse from the highway.
