Settindown Offers No Resistance
« on: June 03, 2008, 10:31:02 AM »
Wow .... just, wow.

Settindown is a very, very tough course. 7,100 yards plus. Knee high Bermuda rough.  Viciously fast greens.

Jason Bohn goes 62, 67. Matt Kuchar goes 64, 65. After both had traveled all night the night before from Columbus, Ohio.

This is insane.

Greens soft?  No wind?  Nothing else matters to those guys.  7100 yards is on the short side for them.

Bob,

I'm finding professional golf virtually unwatchable.

Changes in equipment have taken so much of the danger out of it.   Courses now have to be virtually silly like a weekly US Open setup, (like that pic of the 18th at Muirfield Village as exhibit A)  to "defend par".   Anything less is gobbled up like a pitch and putt course.

The only time there is any drama is when someone is choking so bad they're virtually puking on their shoes, but that's just painful to watch as well.

Yes and yes and agree 100%.

I've never been one for the "sky is falling" due to technology, and I still enjoy watching pro golf.

BUT I know that course very well, and I must say that those scores are hard to comprehend under any kind of tournament setup.

129 for 36 at Settindown is indeed taking it deep, very deep. In the 2003 Georgia Open (won by Justin Bolli) the winning score for 72 holes was around 8 under par.
