I'll be there Friday but will be with a client most of the time; taking the red eye back to NY Friday night.

Media is all agog about Tiger's return.  Hank says he's never seen Tiger hit the ball better.  Just once I'd like to see someone in Tiger's circle say something that wasn't straight party line.  It's worse than the old Soviet Politiburo.

You mean not everyone is turning their noses up in disgust at how poor the chosen venue is?

I was at Torrey Pines this past weekend and I must say that the USGA is trying to be more like THE OPEN Championship, with dry and presumably firm and fast conditions ...

David, can you suggest a day, time, and good place for us all to meet up?  I generally use tues and wed to get as many interviews as I can, but I also walk the course backward and forward during those days.  Then the best times are fri morn and sat morn, but I can be somewhat flexible.

Also, where is there a good place to meet up far from the throngs?

A group of us are meeting in Anstruther. Far enough? I'll fetch the address if you're interested.

And 9 holes or more, and no doubt several attempts to play that 5th hole......
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Looking down the 1st fairway, not nearly as narrow as I expected.

18th Green, I wonder where the drop zone will be for the golfer who slings one into the grandstand?

Mike,

Did you photshop those last 2 shots; they look a lot greener than the previous picture of #2?

The first fairway is pretty indicative of the width being presented; 25 yard wide fairway with 6 yards of very short secondary rough on either side. This gives the players 37 yards to land their tee shots; you do not want to be 38 yards off the mark though, the primary rough is brutal!

Torrey doesn't excite me based on aerials and television shots but I must admit that the ground level photograph from the first tee looks quite appealing.  I'd love to see some more of these.

BTW, when do Romo et al play and is it on the tube?

Mike,

They are meant to play one week before the Open, to simulate full on Open conditions. The telecast is scheduled for the hour before the final round telecast on Sunday.

I may well be wrong, but I thought they are supposed to play two weeks before the Open.

Mark Bourgeois did indeed suggest Anstruther in the east Neuk of Fife, in response to your request for a meeting spot far from the madding crowds of Torrey.  Buda VI officially commences on Monday 16th June but there is a pre gathering for fish suppers and 9 holes (or more) at Anstruther on the Sunday.

We did plan to watch the closing stages of the US Open in a Scottish hostelry but given the time difference between the west coast & the UK and the current pace of play issues on the PGA Tour I'm not sure either the Budaites or the barman will have the stamina to be still watching at 3am Monday morning ;D
