-15 at US Open Sectional at Settindown :O

Just finished officiating at Settindown Creek in Roswell, GA.  Settindown is a very good course and normally plays very difficult.

Field of 37 for 3 spots and Matt Kuchar (64-65) and Jason Bohne (62-67)shoot 15 under par!

DJ Trahan and one other player were playing off for the last spot at 10 under par, 134 :o  The course was in great shape and the greens were rolling perfect and a 1/2 inch of rain a couple of days prior softened the greens up enough that it was target practice but still..........

If anyone in Atlanta knows Settindown, you have to be amazed at the scores.  Of course, the older members were already complaining and talking about lengthening the course as much as possible (it's already over 7,000) and adding 100 yards will make absolutely no differrence to those caliber of players but......if it makes the members happy :(

Anyway, today just highlighted to me the difference between good club players, even really good amateurs and the pros playing well on a course that gives 98% of golfers fits.

Chrs,

I agree with your assessment of these pros on tour.  So many people think if they can get their scores down to around scratch they could play with these tour pros.  In the last 15 years golf has become so mainstream that all these young kids have developed into real power players that can dominate any golf course from the tips off the tee and around the greens.

The thing that amazes me the most is just how fast they adapt and can spend just one day on a course then play a 2 day qualifier and shoot lights on at -15.  I have some buddies that played in college in the SEC and if I play with them I know exactly where I stand shooting 80.

Matt, your points make the medal scores in the 2005 U.S. Amateur even more eye-opening.  Average was 78+ IIRC.  Only four or so rounds under 70, with a low of 69.  The course was Merion.  The local GCA'ers said it wasn't even set up that tough, either.
