Maine golf trip
« on: May 22, 2008, 09:55:52 PM »
I've always wanted to play courses in Maine and after many discussions with Mr. Moore I am finally making it happen in June.

The itinerary:

Day 1
Prouts Neck
Belgrade Lakes

Day 2
Kebo Valley
Grindstone Neck & Blink Bonnie (Is there a cheaper 18 holes on the ocean? - $30 total)

Day 3
Cape Arundel
Abenakee

I wish we could have worked in North Haven but it just wasn't logistically possible.  I'll be bringing the digital camera so you can expect to see a number of pictures.  I might even have a laptop with me so that I can post my thoughts as I go.

Anyone have any comments on these courses?  Things to look for as we play them?

Geoffrey - I've always enjoyed Belgrade Lakes.  The viiew off the first tee is worth the price of admission.  It's not a world-class deisgn, but it is a lot of fun.  And the staff has always been fantastic.  Very walkable too.

When in June are you going?  Be careful you'e not there during black fly or no-see-um season.  I spent a summer in New Hampshire, and I'll never forget golf in June there becuase of the no-see-um's.  Nasty little buggers!

IIRC, the rule of thumb was to avoid Northern New England from Mother's Day to Father's Day.

Dan,

We will be up there beginning the Wednesday after Father's Day (6/18) through Saturday (6/21).  Hopefully the no-see-um's will have subsided and we will have plenty of sunshine!

I'm looking forward to Belgrade Lakes.  It is very different than the other classical courses we are playing along the coast.  It fit in well with our itinerary and it will be nice to be able to take a caddy there.

Just how large is the President Taft bunker on 17 at Kebo Valley?

It's large enough for all of the presidents -- and all of their cabinets.

Have fun at Kebo Valley. I did.

My nephew did, too -- even though he spent some time (and several strokes) in the sands of Taft.

I've been in the Taft bunker at Myopia - is it bigger/deeper than that one?
