politically incorrect rules question
« on: April 17, 2008, 10:03:46 PM »
OK.  I'm having a great time at Champions Golf Club despite playing like crap at the champions cup.  GCAer Kyle Krahenbuhl set us up in the cottage next to the range and I am having a great time polishing off some beers and reading some great golf books.

Anyway after thumbing through the1976 uSGA decisions book I stumbled across this little. Sexist gem. I quote directly:  "in match play, two women were so busy talking they failed to play two holes. They did not realize the omission until the results of the match were posted and they wondered why their scores were so good.....What is the correct ruling?

I'm sorry but am I the only one that finds this so ridiculous that it's hysterical!  And yes, I know the etymology of hysteria!

I think they have it anatomically correct, in their defense.

Would it make any difference if that Decision was written: "Two Men were talking, and....?

Chris,
Sorry I missed you there today.
I was checking where everyone was from and didn't see any GCA logoed golf bags.....

It was a pretty windy day out there.
Good luck tomorrow.

Who knew they had internet access in the cabins...

OK, this thread is going nowhere so how about this--Mike, at the dinner Mr. Burke mentioned the driving range re-do and the lengthening of holes 2, 6, 13 and 16. :o

#2 is 460 and does play downwind but still.
#6 is 449, lake on the edge of the green and plays directly into the wind!!
#13 at 540 and also playing into the predominant wind is great already and only reachable with little or no wind.
#16 is a par 3 that again is into the prevailing wind and plays much longer than the 186 listed.

The course is par 71 and 7300 yards.  How much more length is neccesary?!

Give us some scoop :)

Jeff,

That would never happen because TEPaul's constant companion, his guide dog Coorshaw, never makes a mistake when it comes to following a routing.

And, since I have a good sense of direction and am the only one of us who can count, I'd know which hole we're on all the time.

JeffB:

That's not possible---or----you don't know Patrick Mucci very well, do you?

It is not possible for anyone to DISCUSS anything with Patrick at any time, not on the golf course, not anywhere. Basically no matter where he is or what the subject is Patrick Mucci talks so much it is just not possible to get a word in edge-wise or front-wise or back-wise or any-wise.

But something like that did happen to me one time. I was playing NGLA with Kye Goalby and at the "Bottle" hole we got so into looking at, analyzing and discussing the architecture on that hole we realized while standing on the green that our golf balls were still back in the fairway about 150 yards from the green!

A GREAT revision!  This should be adopted immediately!

Here's another politically incorrect question for you guys:

For about the last five years at my club we had a lady Green Committee Chair. I always took the minutes and I was never sure if I should refer to her as the Green Chairman, or Chairwoman, or Chairperson. One time I asked her and she said she couldn't care less what I called her.  ;)

A.G. Crockett:

In that Rules situation with me and Pat Mucci I can pretty much guarantee you the correct ruling with Patrick would be "no penalty".

I think even the USGA Rules Committee understands if they tried to penalize a man that powerful and important (Patrick is actually an incredibly powerful North Jersey DON) that they'd all "get whacked" by the end of the day!

A GREAT revision!  This should be adopted immediately!

To be completely "correct" the above quote should start "in stroke play...."  To make it more relevant, I'd also change "Pat Mucci and Tom Paul" to "John Kavanagh and himself."

Chris,

Sorry to hear you were so bored you had to resort to reading the decisions. My condolences.

Patrick would say that there was no need for the two holes and that the  Committee shouldn't have used them.

Tom would say that, as usual Patrick doesn't know what he is talking about.  And he would be correct.

I need to go through my 1920s and 1930s decisions books I know there are more jewels like that in there.

That was my first thought but the book caught me too. I was at the cottage a few hours ago and on the table in front of me was a huge book. I glanced at it only because I couldn't find any books with pictures of naked woman.

Since it was match play, perhaps one of the women (or maybe Mucci or Paul) was three up!
