Newbie from Tampa, FL
« on: April 18, 2008, 05:59:14 PM »
Hello everyone!

I am a new forum member from Tampa, FL.  I have been perusing the forums on GCA for 2 years now...thanks to everyone for so much education on architecture, pictures, and recommendations on places to play.

I was born and raised in Louisville, KY...when I began high school, Valhalla had just been built...I subsequently became a caddie thee throughout my 4 years in high school...even though I did enjoy caddying, I was around golf constantly competing with my high school team...however, something called "course is closed on Mondays, but open to caddies for play" kept me coming back to Valhalla all 4 years:)

I have lived in Tampa for 4+ years now...typically, I drive 50 minutes north to Brooksville to play at World Woods...which gets a good amount of praise here on the board, and deservedly so...especially Pine Barrens!

However, thanks to the write-ups and the extensive photos posted for Sugarloaf Mountain, I spent a day there 2 weeks ago and loved it!!!  I am in the process of becoming a member there (which has reciprocal playing privileges at Southern Hills:), so I will offer a version(s) of "My Home Course" soon!

Also, as many of you have already done, I committed to at least 1 major golf trip per year to begin checking off the courses I want to visit in my lifetime...life's "to-golf-list"...last year, went to Kohler and had a great time with all 4 courses (I have some great pictures of Whistling Straits...Straits AND Irish if anyone would like to see them)...this year, going to Bandon, and next year North Ireland...

Anyway, great to be here on the board, and thanks again for so much incredible knowledge and information!!!!

Best,

Frank Sullivan

Where in Tampa? I'm a transplanted Philadelphian living off Bruce B. Downs between Fletcher and Bearss Ave. and currently the Irrigation Technician at Hunter's Green Country Club.

Send me a PM if you'd like to join up for some golf soon.

Welcome, Frank! I'd love to see pics of the Irish course -- did a quick search and couldn't find any on the site. Mark

Welcome Frank! Glad to have another FL guy here.
Did you know World Woods has the best burger I've ever had in my entire life? I'm planning a trip back just for another one between rounds.

frank, welcome to dodge city. my brother and two best friends live in tampa so i make it up there quite often as i'm only four and a half hours away living here in miami. world woods (pine barrens) is a wonderful track. also liked el diablo but the conditionaing was suspect. really enjoy old memorial, black diamond and palma ceia. tampa palms was too tight and a little tricked up for my taste. heading up your way this summer to play sugarloaf mountain. look forward to your take on sugarloaf in "my home course".
