While looking through the information on http://golf.visitscotland.com i stumbled on the West Linton site. http://www.wlgc.co.uk/

The tag line?

...cherish the good turf

Amen to that!
Over time, the guy in the ideal position derives an advantage, and delivering him further  advantage is not worth making the rest of the players suffer at the expense of fun, variety, and ultimately cost -- Jeff Warne, 12-08-2010

Hard pressed to say this would be the best but the Johnny Miller designed course The Bridges originally called itself "a course with attitude" but has softened it to "the tougher the course the greater the challenge"

Both give you a sense of what you are in for when you tee it up

The things a man has heard and seen are threads of life, and if he pulls them carefully from the confused distaff of memory, any who will can weave them into whatever garments of belief please them best.

I'm always very fearful of courses that show pictures of their nattily attired attendants:

The image on the van is from the back tee on 17. It's actually on the van - not a Photoshop trick.
