I think this thread is specific to PS3. I was having a conversation with Ben Cowan Dewar a while back and I brought up this topic because of the relevancy I saw in being able to study the courses that are on the game.
Along the lines of Jeff's Sawgrass comments I found the same sort of challenge while playing Riviera, Harbour Town and Sawgrass. If you play Tiger's character it will be hard to relate to the angles and challenges most golfers face. If you play with a new character, one you will develop (this character starts with no skill), you can see the challenges a high handicapper might face. The realism of the challenge is hard to beat, the angles and yardages to clear bunkers at Riviera, the tree lines and angles at Harbour Town, the risk and reward at Sawgrass.
The game also exposes how boring places like Firestone, East Lake, Cog Hill and some others are. There is no thought necessary on these courses.
It helps that I'm playing on a 52" HDTV but I think it's helped me learn a lot about the courses that are offered, the graphics are awesome.
We need someone to come up with the software to design your own course for PS3, maybe something similar to the computer designs that have been available in the past on a game such as Links Golf.
In the meantime I suggest everyone go out and buy Tiger Woods 08 and a PS3, don't worry, the blue ray technology is going to replace HDDVD's.
