Buck, those ads present a great learning opportunity.  :)

Seriously, I have found that honesty is always best....when the kids ask the questions, I give them the answer....sometimes it goes right over their head, and sometimes it leads to more questions...generally, they go "oh, ok..." and move on.....like I said in an earlier post, there is really nothing risque about the ads, and in fact, they typically show a very loving family...

JVB,

Just to satisfy my own curiosity, but how does one come across such articles (14 year olds taking viagra)?

I once asked John Kavanaugh during his JakaB period where he came up with such dark thoughts?  He replied that he had purchased a large collection of books, maybe even an entire library, from an estate and that he read late at night on a wide variety of subjects.  Do you troll the internet for unusual, arcane subjects?

Bob H,

The vestiges of good manners and proper behavior have given way to free expression and everything goes.  Unless you're a member of a protected class, you have no right to expect not being offended.

Today, parents are no longer expected to teach values to their kids.  That's now the role of Hillary's village, the public school monopoly, and the children's own peers.  Sadly, the disciplinary problems of the everyday classroom take away from our children's ability to learn the three Rs, but not from their focus on adult themes.

If you can take any solace from this is that grade schoolers today probably know a great deal more about the anatomy, ED, and certain types of pharmocology than young adults did back 50-60 years ago.  Unfortunately, with the absence of learning good values and ingraining character, the results are often tragic.

I am somewhat amused with the ED ads, particularly the ones with the side-by-side bathtubs outside in panoramic settings.  We once stayed a couple of nights at the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge and would have enjoyed our butler pouring us a bath at the rim of the crater.  Alas, the best he could do was one in our villa with only a distant view through a window.  No pills needed, thank you.

Lou,

I gave up reading when I found my eyes lagging my imagination.

I have devoted much time to analysis of the ED commercials. I remain convinced that the side by side bathtubs goes over the head of the average viewer. I get a kick out of the diversity efforts employed by the Madison Avenue elitists, especially the Indian looking couple with the leaky faucet (also subliminal). I have not yet seen east asians featured, but I expect they are in the works. If they'll wrestle the horns off of rhino's and eat shark fins, they'll certainly try a blue pill.  They avoid any ethnic mixing, and I would really like to see a gay version, it would be a sort of two for one

J.K.,

Pity.  If you could discipline your imagination, you might actually learn something.  On second thought, probably not.

Lou Duran,

In the immortal words of Ronald Reagan, "There you go again!"   ;D

When will you stop blaming the capitalists for all that is wrong in America?   Don't you, as the consumer, have the choice to 1) change the channel, 2) turn off the television, 3) do something more productive to contribute to our GDP than watching the boob tube, or 4) rope a steer or go our back and do some shooting practice, or 5) go to church and rail against this sinful nation from the other side of the Jeremiah Wright aisle?   ;)

Why in God's name would you want the government to step-in and put up a strangle-hold, regulatory, bureaucratic, money-wasting barrier when a productive, well-meaning pharmaceutical company is merely trying to supply a critical need in our country and effectively stop their right of free speech?    Why should there be regulations to tell them what, and where, and when they can execute that speech?   Isn't that the evil hand of Big Brother simply trying to drag us all down into the socialistic pit of "politically correct" speech where we can't say what we mean or even mean what we say?

I'm frankly shocked that you'd be sitting on the side of BIG government controls on this one, Lou.   Where's a rugged individualist to go in this country when he finds he can't rise to the occasion?   ;)  ;D

MPCirba,

A strict constructionist you're not!  Based on our few rounds of golf, I thought you were a much older man.  Given your readily apparent poor reading comprehension and appalling reasoning, my earlier estimates were off by as much as 20 to 25 years.  I am so sorry that our public school system has failed you so miserably.

But all kidding aside, I am among the last here to call for government of any size to jump in and save us from ourselves.  FDR and Johnson only greased the skids that have undermined personal and familial responsibility.  They had and continue to have a substantial portion of the population who are 100% in for the Big Slide.  I am merely lamenting that we seem to have lost our manners and civility.

BTW, I am not bothered by the ED commercials, though I can see how they may be awkward for some people.  I am surprised that the market is that large to warrant what must be considerable outlays of advertising funds.  Maybe some day I will have a greater appreciation.

As to your last question, a rugged individualist by definition always rises given that he has the imagination and spirit, even when suffering from a case of Kavanaugh's tired eyes.  I suspect that these drug therapies are routine and customary particularly on the west coast as well as in the east just north of the Carolinas.

Lou,

Touche, my licensious, "anything goes", laissez-faire, morally bankrupt friend.

How could you possibly let such pornographic trash smudge our public airwaves and diminish our collective culture?!?

I've sent a letter to Rev. Donald Wildmon of "Focus on the Family" and I expect you'll be receiving a scolding, scorching hot phone call discussing all sorts of perversities that they wish to protect us from.

You'd better get on board, or risk losing your conservative credentials.

Geez...I'm having a tough time keeping up with whose side is whose and whose side is Lou's!  ;D

Equally as offesive was the fan who yelled at VJ when he was "in" his swing on # 18.

Yeah, what a moron.

O/T on this O/T thread...I noticed that when O'Hair was teeing off on #17, behind him were a couple of guys crouched down watching, with cellphones held to their ears and waving smugly, obviously talking to their buddies on the phone..."Hey Johnnie, you guys are on tv right now, wave!"... and just to their right, were two women with digital cameras stuck to their forehead.

Are these things permitted on a course during tour events?

I was at the Monday practice round at Augusta 2 years ago and heard a guy's cellphone go off and I thought that a pack of seniors was going to lay a lickin' on him.
