What about great logos
« on: March 12, 2008, 08:08:51 PM »
I saw an old thread about Good course - Bad logo.

What about just a plain old GREAT logo?

1)  The Honors Course - Just the Tennessee Amateur trophy.

2)  Chicago GC

I agree with with Chip, Merion is the best but I also like Sand Hills.

If it's OK, I'll throw out a great course with a lousy logo - Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin.  The logo looks like a baseball diamond...

Hard to beat Far and Sure at ChicagoGC.  Although the unmistakable ANGC logo is probably the most recognizable in the world.

Joey,

You can go to the first post on the thread (where you started it) and push the modify button. The post will be brought up including the subject. Correct the subject, and push save. After that, the first reply will display the corrected subject. People often make an addional post to their thread at that point to get the corected subject to appear.

To be good, they have to be simple.  Sand Hills is a great example.  I also think Kapalua is pretty good.  Valhalla is OK, but it is a little modern for my taste, with its scary Nordic vulture swooping in to devour me and my golf ball.

www.valhallagolfclub.com

I am always surprised at how bad a lot of the logos are in GB&I.  Turnberry is probably the worst.  There is just way too much going on.  It is a too-colorful attempt to show a lighthouse, a golf course, the Ailsa Craig, some seagulls and a golf course, all on the one square centimeter side of your golf ball.   Too busy.

I liked the old Yeamans logo of the man under the tree, but they seem to have moved away from it for the simpler monogram.

Pasatiempo is also pretty nice.

Royal County Down, Turnberry, Carnoustie are all very bad.

There is also a course somewhere that a milk bottle that looked pretty cool.

I am a fan of the Stonewall cow. Taconic purple cow (nod to Williams) is also good stuff.

I suppose like Art, I prefer my animal logos to be of the non-threatening variety. An angry cow would simply not cut it.

I wish Myopia's was a slightly blurry, out-of-focus, Capital 'M'.

CPC's makes me quiver.

Most of St. Andrews are utter drivel.

Ladybank's cute squirrel and Gleneagles, em, eagle are nicely 'natural'.

We tend to mostly go for the quasi-heraldic shield over here. Sooooo Victorian, baby.

So I pull up the old thread noted by Paul, read through the comments and I begin to reply when a red warning is posted:

Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days.
Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic.

Perhaps I owe Jay Flemma an apology ... ;)

We already made nice on the other thread, Mike, it's OK.  How are things anyway.

Whoever said "Sleepy Hollow," great call.  As a literature junkie, that one was right up my alley.

My favorite cap is my Oakmont hat with the squirrel logo.  I like animal logos best.
