Trump In Aberdeen Update
« on: February 29, 2008, 07:11:18 PM »
An article in today's (February 29) Press & Journal states that the Scottish government's final decision on the Trump project north of Aberdeen will be announced in October.

Trump is obviously not pleased with the delay, but he does not say whether he will wait around till October or pursue alternative venues in the meantime.

Do you think if Trump hired DMK that would help his cause?   Or is it just the housing development?  His Gringo personality etc.

Jason H. -

By DMK, I presume you are referring to David M. Kidd. Is that correct?

Initially, Trump stated the younger Tom Fazio (nephew of the older TF) would be the GCA for the 1st course there. Then Trump brought a British GCA into the picture (Martin Hawtree, I think). I have no idea if that was done to throw the natives a bone. ;)

I seriously doubt the nationality of the GCA on this project will influence the approval of the project by the government in any way.

Could someone explain the nature of making such a statement? Is it some Scottish political nuance to announce the timeframe on making a decision? And, Why so long?

Adam,

The British political system is similar to ours, hence, we have the same problem.

Politicians usually make an announcement that they will make an announcement in the future to announce that they are actually doing something besides announcing.

The time delay is so that when they announce the decision, they can announce that after careful consultation, the decision was ( nay/yea).

Then their media minders will announce that there are to be no questions as everything will be explained in this little media pack available on the way out of the announcement, and invite them back tomorrow where the honourable member will have another announcement to make about whether he will announce he is forming a committee to look into the problem of why he has to make so many announcements, as he/she doesn't think they should have to be accountable to the people that elected them.

Try housing in an area not earmarked for development, SSSI and throw in the fact many Scots don't take kindly to brash money waving. Donald would have been well advised to have taken a leaf out of Mark Parsinen's (Kingsbarnes & Castle Stuart) book.

Brian, Kingsbarnes yes, Castle Stuart mostly (except the Hotel and housing). Had Mark Parsinen gone about CS the same way Donald has done in Aberdeen would he have gotten so far so quickly? Maybe, maybe not.

It has been very entertaining to watch.  So I guess Aberdeen will wait for the right type of money to be waived in their faces?  In other words for the right reasons.
