« on: February 26, 2008, 11:10:53 PM »
Just got the latest PNGA magazine. Jeff Shelley wrote a good article listing the new courses expected in 2008.

*Discussed here quite a bit.

Idaho

Teton Reserve - Victor / Hale Irwin (Public)
*Built to be played in reverse also.

The Idaho Club - Sandpoint / Nicklaus (Private)

Sun Valley Resort Golf Course - Sun Valley / Donald Knott (Resort)
*First nine

Hunter's Point Golf Club - Nampa / Gene Bates (Private)

Oregon

Desert Falls Golf & Country Club - Hermiston / Gary Browning (Public)

Chehalem Glenn Golf Course - Newberg / Bill Robinson (Public)
*Second nine

The Club at Thetherow - Bend / David McLay Kidd (Resort)
*Hotel Guests

Montana

The Wilderness Club - Eureka / Faldo & Curley (Semi-Private)

Washington

Palouse Ridge Golf Club - Pullman / Harbottle (University - WSU)

Zillah Lakes - Zillah / Bobby Cupp Jr. (Public)
* "18-on-9" design

The article will post in 3-4 weeks.

*Also, just saw that "The Resort at the Mountain" was sold and will have a redesign by Harbottle.

Unless there are delays I do not know about, Oregon will have two other debuts
Wicked Pony (Doak), between Redmond and Prineville. Private, part of Remington Ranch.

Paradise Ranch (Nicklaus), on Rogue River at Merlin, near Grants Pass. Resort

I believe the second nine at Chehalem Glenn opened last Labor Day weekend.

Teton Reserve is built to play in reverse. :o  Has anyone anymore information on this?  It is like one of those untapped ideas that on the right piece of property could be unlike any other in the states.

Does anyone know of anyone else currently planning to give this a go?  I have heard Mike DeVries talk about it in the past, but not at the point of actually being able to get it carried out with an owner.

Josh,

I recall either Tom or Jim talking about a course they did where they had considered building it in a way that would allow it to be played in reverse, and they mentioned that had they actually carried out the idea, it would have done secretly, and not made it known to the developer until opening day when they would play the course backwards. SURPRISE!  But for whatever reason they decided against the idea.

Wine Valley in Walla Walla, Washington

Tierra Del Mar, Skipanon (Aastoria), and Tillamook Hangars(?), and Tumalo  all seem to be at a standstill.

Grants Pass, Oregon is getting Paradise Ranch. A Jack Nicklaus design that should open this year.

Another new course in the PNW is Gozzer Ranch that Tom Fazio is doing on Lake Coeur d'Alene.  I believe it may have been finished this past fall.  Here is a link:  http://www.gozzerranchclub.com/golf/

It will be interesting to see how it stacks up to Black Rock, Circling Raven, and the new Idaho Club once it is finished.

I doubt that Tierra Del Mar is ever built.

Last I heard the C & C in Central Oregon is a go, however, probably 3 to 4 yrs from construction.
What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

Jeff,

For BC I understand you can add The Rise near Vernon. A Fred Couples Signature course but as I understand it, designed by Gene Bates. Bates has not worked in this part of the world, so far as I am aware and he does not come up very often on this website so not sure what to expect.

There has been a lot of rumour that the Rise was in big financial trouble but apparently the course should be opening this summer. It will have some spectacular views of Lake Okanagan.

Thanks to all! It should be a good year for all of us up here. It'll be hard for me to top 07, but we'll see...
