Any word on the development status of Prairie Club?

I didn't find any thread(s) on here pertaining to either the Hanse course or the Lehman course.  The website prairieclub.com is expired.

I've read some tidbits via google but its articles that are 2 or 3 years old.

Does anyone know of any other courses currently in development in the sand hills?

Hopefully Geoff Shackelford can find and chime in on this compelling but elusive topic.

Not a word on the Prairie Club,

Unsubstantiated, but I did hear that Dr. Trimble has purchased the old Valentine Municipal course and plans to turn it into housing. The good news is...they will be building a new course for the locals. Again, This is completely through the rumor mill and is subject to being spurious. Hopefully, one of Ainsworth's finest citizens will know more and can chime in.

This project is slowly turning into a disappointment.  Wasn’t the original opening supposed to be this summer?  It is a disappointing in the fact that here was the possibility to have high quality golf with the sand hills experience every year without draining one of your children’s college funds to be a member somewhere.

Lehman’s website shows Valentine’s status as in the planning stage.  Am I writing this project off too soon?  I hope I am wrong.  If they are going forward with the project they need another PR person because there is zip out there.

Has the SH reached the saturation point or is this situation indicative of the economy/golf economy?

Simply to give some perspective on this, I believe it was fall 2002 when Rod Whitman and I travelled to Valentine to interview for this job with Dr. Trimble. Gil Hanse and a few others made the same trip about the same time, I think. Overall, it's been more than five years in the making... which isn't that unusual for a golf course development, actually.

So, maybe there's still some hope.

Dr. Trimble has sold the property to Paul Schock of South Dakota and Mr. Schock has decided to build two courses in the "chop" away from the canyon. I believe he is planning on a resort with some memberships, and also facilities for other activities, including a youth ministry.

One of the courses will be designed by Graham Marsh and the other by Tom Lehman. The canyon edge course that I helped Gil Hanse route has been shelved for the time being but may happen down the road depending on the success of the first two.

Interesting Geoff.

Too bad about your course there being shelved. Utilizing the canyon edge for golf is what would really differentiate Valentine from other sand hills region courses.

I am thrilled the project is not dead, the only Marsh course I’ve played is Sutton Bay.  The routing photos on the original website are a big tease to the project’s potential.

From what I know, the project is in good hands.  Tom Lehman has visited the site more than a dozen times and realizes the potential fully.  Paul Shock is a good friend of Dr. Trimble and is also a member of Sand Hills.

Paul is a phenonemal golfer, he has won more than one South Dakota amatuer title and listening to him describe how to fish on that river, got me thinking he may be a better fisherman than golfer.

Josh,

The Snake River there, at Valentine, is really neat, isn't it. Whitman showed as much, if not perhaps more, interest in the fly-fishing than the golf course project when we were there!
