Bag Kiawah... go to Sea Island.  Stay in the Lodge... lounge at the Beach Club... play great, reasonably priced golf on amazing courses... get treated like royalty.  That is their off season and they are hurting... should be able to get some great deals.  It is a breathtaking place.

I dont know why Kiawah rubs me the wrong way, but I live for Sea Island.

Funny...I have the exact opposite opinion of you. For some reason Sea Island rubs me the wrong way...it's very nice, it's expensive, and the people are all great but I think they try way too hard IMO. But in the end both are great spots.

Sorry not much new to add from what's already been suggested...but I would play Ocean 2x if at all possible, I don't give a hoot for the other public options.  If you can get on Cassique, do it.  If you can get on River, maybe do it.  If you don't mind travelling off-island I would check Bulls Bay - they seem very accomodating to outside play.  I would rather drive to and play Rivertown or Patriot's Point than play the KI courses, but they are convenient.  Enjoy the trip!

I don't get it.  I've played The River Course and Cassique a number of times each.  While I enjoy both, I like The River Course more.  And it's not because it's easier.  To the contrary, I find The River Course the second hardest course on the island (although, technically, Cassique is on Seabrook Island and Oak Point is on Johns Island).  Last time I played Cassuque was during the media day for the Mid-Am.  Even though it had USGA event rough grown in (nothing worse than the "birdnests" you find in Bermuda rough), I shot even par on the front nine and was doing great on the back until I found the rough, tried to muscle out a long iron, pulled a back muscle and limped in double, double, par, double for a 79.  I never have come close to that on The River Course but I still love the course.  It's Fazio with teeth.  Seems almost everyone else here likes Cassique better.  What am I missing?
