Is the 6th at Spgylass an underrated hole?

With holes 1-5 preceding it, the sixth rarely gets any talk or credit for being a solid hole.

The fairway bunker challenges the tee shot and the best angle to the green.

The green itself is awesome, a huge tier seperates the lower quarter and punishes any shot not hit with enough club.  The back of the green has some wicked slopes that make holing anything tough.

I also like the greenside bunkers.  They dig into the green and force correct club choice.

Yes, the hole is very uphill and takes you away from one of the best opening stretches in golf, but it is not a slog by any means and in my opinion is very solid.

What do you guys think?

JW,

I like the hole as well. Visually it reminded me somewhat of 10 at Cypress Point.

Jordan, Under rated is always a tough call, since few rate holes. But, I think you're right that it's a good golf hole. I use to tell golfers who were likely unable to execute the approach to just play it short of the green, hoping to chip and putt for their par. The green exemplifies what makes Spy such a better course than many give it credit. Truthfully, I don't believe there is an easy pin position on that whole green. They all require local knowledge with all the interior contours. (and as you say, the rear)

Having played it the past 3 days, I can confirm at least that it's really hard. And there is no easy hole location. You can't go long no matter where the hole is, and when the hole is behind the left or right bunkers, it's basically impossible to get underneath it because you can't stop your iron shot that quickly. When the hole is in the front, you just have that narrow little gap that constitutes being below the hole. It's 446 and plays like 475 or so. Not much as far as options, but it sure is demanding.
