It looks like all topics prior to June 2003 have been lost.

Also you can click on a heading to change the organization - for example, click on "Subject" to see all the threads in alphabetical order, or "Started by" to see all the threads in order of who started them.

Matt,

Actually there looks to have been a problem when the forum was ported over to the newer version.

If you go to this link  http://golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/board,1.24430.html,  It puts you on page 699 of the forum boards.  Scroll down and you will notice it goes from this post, (notice the time stamp)

Ye Gads!  Tennis Making More Sense Than Golf??   June 24, 2003, 12:15:36 am

To this one:

Glen Mills School, Golf Course and Vocational Inst  November 30, 2001, 04:21:05 pm

So all the posts between November 30, 2001 and June 24, 2003 appear in the forum in the wrong order.  (Oldest to newest, instead of newest to oldest)

Ben, thanks for you diligent work.  And, are you tempted to eliminate "report to moderator" yet!  ;) ;D

Dan Kelly will be very glad to see the option "don't use smileys"  ;D

I can't find my special button to "stifle posting my own political B.S." so thanks for that.  ;) ;D 8)

Interestingly the two treads with by far the most views are Who are you guys, and Who are you guy revisited.  :(

Matthew,

For years, they have always been available on the [More Stats] page, which seems to have
been decommissioned (hopefully temporarily) earlier today while one is logged in (it still can
been seen while NOT logged in).  Another way is to click on the 'Golf Course Architecture' link above,
then click on 'Views' (above 2nd to last column on the right) twice.

When I am logged in, I can't pull up other member profiles.  It gives an error and says "apologies, you cannot view just any profile".  When not logged in, they pull up fine.

A dark cloud of censureship appears, ironically as a thank you and recognition of the tolerance of GCA.com was posted...  :-\ :-[ :'(

Quote
The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you.

Above is the message I just got after posting a non-insulting, optimistic response to the "does Obama play golf" thread, including the following, paraphrased most recent post by me, which was unfortunately censured/deleted:

Parapharased because I can't remember the exact words:

"This is why GCA.com is the best discussion forum on the planet.  Where else can you go and get such a lofty and spirited discussion, on everything from economics, to social-economic policy such as health care,  from very smart people and a spirited inter-class scrimage, on a tread entitled "Does Obama Play Golf"

Jeepers I just love it!  ;D ;D ;D"

Perhaps I spoke too soon.  :'(

Art,

This could be just a problem with your account.  I can look at other peoples profiles just fine.

RJ,

I too think giving the originator of a thread moderator rights for that thread should be changed.  Only the admin/moderatorr should be able to remove individual posts or the entire thread itseld.  I could see topics becoming very one-sided as the thread originator could remove statements that are in the words of Jim Cary "devastating to my case, your honor".

Have you noticed the new feature that allows you while composing a post to go to the previous posts on the thread and insert quotes?

Like this:

Interestingly the two treads with by far the most views are Who are you guys, and Who are you guy revisited.  :(

How do you find it?

Aha.  Thanks, Kalen.  I'd call this a great improvement for sure - and the fact you can also attach other files is fantastic.  We're just going to need to remember that if you want folks to see a large picture, you still have to do it the old fashioned way.

I've always supported Ran's absolute right to run this site as he pleases.   We have the option and choice to support him with our contributions.  I will continue to support the site and Ran, despite a bad taste in the mouth on this issue of a deleted thread, that was O.T. but had many well spoken and informative points of view on one of the greatest issues of our day... that doesn't involve a golf course design.

I felt it particularly ironic, and a bit personal in that IMHO, I had just made two of my most respectful posts to some folks that disagree with my point of view, and I'd made a very optimistic observation of our basic human nature and capabilities, and complimented the fact that we could have such a meaningful discussion in the most implausible of places - a thread on if Obama plays golf.  To me that is our strength in the market place of ideas and discourse.

So, thanks GCA, I still love this forum, but a little less for the determination to delete it, yet it was one of the most active threads in a long time, that wasn't really a flame war so much as spirited discussion among friends and acquaintances.

Yes, and I'd already used it above.  We've always been able to quote someone directly
(though after >29,000 posts, Tom Paul still doesn't know how to do it  ::)), but you had to do it
from the original thread and post.   It's also always been possible to quote multiple people in
one post, but that took a little more work.

RJ,

I don't think you realize that the guy who started the thread is probably the one who deleted it.  Now if we could just delete those guys who post under fake names.

Not to be a bitchygirl but I would love some bigger font.  I can bareley see this stuff.

Jk,

You can set your own Text size in your browser.  If using IE, go to the View Menu and select it.  Then move your cursor down and select Text Size.  If its already set to Largest, then you can always just ratchet down the resolution as well.

Listen, one  item I have not seen mentioned  thus far on this thread about all the changes is that it took Ran and Ben and the administration of this website some serious "green" to make these changes or improvements or whatever they're being called.

So, you freeloaders and louts and "Chatty Kathies" better cough up some of your own "green" and help them out! GOT THAT?!? What do you think they're doing  here, just subsidizing everything for our personal entertainment?

The "Contributions" section of this website better get some serious attention here. Look at Pat Mucci! I know he's filthy rich and he takes  waaay too much bandwidth on here saying inaccurate things and just plain arguing, so I wouldn't expect anyone to compete with his contribution, but let him and his contribution be an inspiration and an example.

What did you say? Did I hear you say my name isn't on the "Contributions" list this year??

Never you mind that.

THE check is in the mail (or pretty close to it).

I agree with the reminder on contributions.   There should be about 1500 names on that 2008 list.

I don't think it is a good idea for the person that originated a topic to be able to delete everyone's posts.  After someone else posts, the originator doesn't really own the topic anymore.

The search function works much better. I tried a couple things and got all kinds of useful information from the archives. Good stuff!

I was hoping with the revamping of the website there might be additional Discussion Groups built with one for for OT topics or where threads that leave the realm of golf/golf course architecture can be transferred.

The quality of the presentation via Blackberry has degraded somewhat for what surely must be for some unfathomable technical reason.
