It's funny, but as an early investor in Google I have yet to click on one of their ads....on any site.

I am afraid I am so addicted to GCA that if it was necessary to view three ads a day I would do it, but reluctantly.

Jack,

Ran does not earn money off this website, he owns it but he has never earned money off it.  I don't think he is doing it to earn money but is probably doing to pay for essays etc as Ian Andrew mentioned.

Although it is Ran's site it still the membership that make it what it is.

I have no idea why 'Ads by Google'  :P appears. This is a total - and unwelcome - surprise to me too.

In no way, shape or form is this the direction that GolfClubAtlas.com is pursuing.

I have notified SiteSuite and I am sure they will correct it quickly (whatever it is).

Interesting!!  I didn't think this was such a big deal, that it was a way to fund more extensive essays, etc. and that Ran was fully aware.

I'm a little more concerned if Ran wasn't involved or even aware!  Sounds like a hosting problem.....

Hey Ran, btw, if you ever need to generate some revenue to pay for expenses, you can always put some unobtrusive Google Ads on the top of each page. Nobody here will even notice ;).

What does it matter? After all, Jason simply came to the same conclusion that ALL OF US DID, he just came to view his conclusion as having a different meaning than most of the rest did.

By the way, it would appear that MOST of US didn't email Ran either... We just assumed that we were in agreement with him.

The biggest irony is that it appears that Jason, who appears to have been in the extreme minority, was also the one who most thought as Ran himself did...

For those opposed to the ads, have you considered a contribution?  GCA.com now takes PayPal, making it a quick and easy transaction.  This is by far my favorite website, and for less than the price of a round at a local CCFAD, I am able to give a little something back to something that brings me so much fun.

My understanding is that while the medical term has existed for something like 125 years, the usage Joe is referencing, at least as far as figurative usage goes, dates back to around 1963, when it was used to describe liberal politicians (that's American-style liberals).  By 1969 the usage apparently extended to conservatives as well.

The more-narrowly scoped figurative usage of Joe's post ("knee-jerk reaction") is newer still, probably 1970.

But that's the 2nd Ed of the OED and they tend to be conservative -- not sure what they picked up for the 3rd.  

Phrases.org.uk sources the figurative usage to 1925, but I'm not sure what they cite technically qualifies.  It just notes a Broadway preacher getting only "an occasional knee-jerk."
