The irony of this Monday
« on: January 14, 2008, 11:09:58 AM »
I don't have any sort of rooting interest in these NFL playoffs, but I was struck by a bit of irony (or coincidence) this morning.

I got to the office on the day after the Giants upset Dallas and ripped off the weekend page on my "Golf-hole-a-day" calendar.

Today's course: Cowboys Golf Club.

Guess the Cowboy players will have plenty of time to enjoy/discover the architectural merits of the course now!

Cowboys Golf Club, by the same designer as Giants Ridge in Minnesota, Dallas' own Jeff Brauer. How appropriate.

It's always good when the cowboys loose; Romo aside, I have a hard time liking any of 'em.

What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

Cowboys and Colts both lose.  Chicago Tribune's sports page headline: "Hold Your Horses".  Not bad...

If anyone in the Dallas area spots T.O. on the first tee with his lip still quivering, PLEASE OH PLEASE take a picture.  Upon media distibution...It'll be worth a good bit of $$$ here in the Philly area.  ;D  The fact that he still hasn't won a playoff game with the Cowboys is just too good to be true.

The only thing that would've made this game even better, is if it was possible for both teams to lose. ;)

Awwww....poor Terrell.

Nice catch! You should be playing wide reciever for someone.....Now if only some the Giants were playing the "Ridge Squirrel Killers" that would be something!

BTW, I have seen the Cowboy players out there for charity events, and Parcells used to play quite often, but more often I saw the hockey guys, like Hull, Modano, and Turco......

Hey Jeff:

Played Cowboys 2 years ago and had a really nice day...went around twice.  Have a couple of pictures at home....have you or anyone else ever posted photos here?

Either the first or second greensite was really something special with a sharp fall off in front and to the left...tell me more about that one (as I recall, the green had a severe back to front slope and we struggled  ;D)

I have the same desk callendar and thought about the same irony. I wonder how many GCAers also have this 365 Golf Holes desk callendar? This is the fourth year for me.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Can you believe that the New York Post would sink this low?

Great, isn't it?

From the NY Post:

Even a fake Jessica Simpson was good enough to throw off the Dallas Cowboys yesterday, as New York took a Giant step toward the Super Bowl.

The Giants, who notched a stunning 21-17 victory over Dallas in the NFC Divisional Playoffs, had a good-luck charm in the stands — in the form of Simpson lookalike Lynsey Nordstrom.

The real Simpson was the subject of great hand-wringing in Big D all week because of her budding romance with Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and his habit of falling short on the field when gal pals are in attendance.

Simpson — nicknamed "Yoko Romo" by some superstitious Cowboys fans — didn't show up yesterday, but The New York Post brought Nordstrom, a beautiful, 21-year-old nanny from Bothell, Wash., to Texas Stadium.

A few years ago when it was dry as a bone, yours truly slipped all the way to the bottom of the creek on that slope fronting the green!  I think the left part of the green is probably too steep.

There was a huge rain just beore seeding and the contractor put it back together, probably not replacing the mix that was there, increasing the steepness from what was originally built.  Since it's ten miles from the office, I guess we should have caught that one... :(

I can say this about Jerry as an Owner - he was a great people person in person, and somehow that doesn't translate when he gets on camera. Also, this was at the height of his image of a meddling owner and he only gave broad instructions - including not wanting "goofy greens" which we obviously ignored on the second hole!

I have briefly met Tony as he was my "design consultant" for a one day routing excersise on a Euro course.  He is supposedly the NFL's best player (and by that, I mean golf, although he seems to be making strides in other areas, as well.......)

Tim,

I got the calendar again, a normal stocking stuffer for me, for probably 8 years now.

Romo apparently can move the ball around the course. A couple of years ago, my buddy who covers the Cowboys for the Dallas Morning News and Romo played Pebble on the day before a game at San Francisco or Oakland.

First time I've ever seen a football game where the center had the yips. Reminded me of Chuck Knoblauch trying to throw from second to first.
