Noel:

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I also want to thank all the little people - Dr. Childs being one - who made this all possible.

I wasn't picking my nose, I was reading the wind, yes, even on putts.

Recently I had an argument with a friend who accused me of being a two faced, money hungry, SOB.  He's right.  So my alter ego, Mr. Tuco Ramirez decided to do something shameless on Ran's website which is promote my own awards, the NAFFY's.  Conceived by me, here they are:

Noel or Tuco,  when your money hungry Noel or blood thirsty Tuco ego and alter ego natures are fully realized, and you become a filthy rich corporate plutocrat with an aging aethiest set of regrets and fear of death, I hope you will assign a substantial philanthropist cash prize along with this prestigious "Naffy" award.  Only then will I aspire to win a category.  :P ::) ;) ;D 8)

Oh my goodness, you aren't kidding about Jim!!!  :o

Obviously, Tony has made something of a role model of Jim's new identity.  Is this a covert disguise or has Jim totally gone pirate on us?  He certainly is deserving of the best pirate/golfer, Naffy.

Mike Young has got to get together with Jimbo, since Mike already has the GC construction sector sewed up in Costa... can Tamorindo Downs CC be far off?

The poor man... he looks to be in "udder" agony down there.

PS: after a google earth flyover, I should have known... there are three decent looking courses within 5 miles of Kahiki in Tamorinda for Jim to partake.  I wonder if Mike did any of them.

Give the man two Naffy's.  One for best udder pirate/golfer, and one for best jungle hideout with golf courses available.

Holy crap, a NAFFY! I will put it on my shelf next to my "#1 Grandson" medal and my trophy from the '85 Little League baseball camp that reads "PARTICIPANT".

(Thanks, Noel.)

To get this thread reoriented toward an architecture theme, I'm wondering if the mounding in the photo above might be a tad bit too manufactured looking for the afficianados of minimalism on this site.  ???

Brother Noel    ;)

I will try harder next year if by chance I am not the winner of one of your as yet unannounced award categories.   :'(   :'(

I do so much covet a NAFFY.   :-*  :-*

Brother Tony - I do believe that you have been out pirated by Brother Jim.  You would look good with an eye patch.  Considerate it when playing golf as well.

Bill,
There you go judging "architecture" from photos again.

Hasn't Matt chastised us enough about only being allowed to evaluate by doing the "heavy lifting" of playing them in person.

Costa Rica had plenty of "courses" last time I was there...
But to keep my family life intact, I'm only going to post itineraries from such places as Wales.....

Which brings me to more Naffy's

Lefty of the year and Neil Regan Award-
Mike Policano (our first double Naffy award winner!)

He's retired, he knows more about the subprime morass than the Bush Administration, the banks and the Fed.  So how did he muscle out Childs, Cirba and the other leftys on this site.  Simply because of the "Policano Blitz".  What in the hell is that?  The man plays Ballyneal with hickories and the blitz is a low cut that rolls forever.  Truly, he has mastered his ground game options.

So now the inaugural Naffy for the Neil Regan Award.  This goes to the person who has the horrible task of just being my magic good luck charm and when in their company I play well.
I feel sorry for people who have to play with me.  I'm a slow player and really I'm unconcerned with my playing partners around me.  Shoot 110, 95, 85, I don't care, I just care about me!  Its all about me!  Neil Regan decided to put me in my place several years ago at Sand Hills and at Fishers Island.  I'd stripe one down the middle and find my ball plugged or in very odd lies off the fairway.   Neil would verbally assault me in a way that sounded like Shivas Irons imparting his wit and wisdom to take the game a little less seriously.  Soon, with Neil by my side I played really well.  Curiously, now when Mr. Policano is with me I play great.  It was on his suggestion after my first round at Ballyneal to hit some hickories on the range.  After 30 minutes with a Brassie and listening to AC/DC's greatest hits due to workmen building some housing, my tempo was perfect and I broke 80 in the afternoon.  Thanks Mike!

Bookman of the year award-

This goes to the person who most is like Bookman from the Seinfeld Library episode.  A bureaucrat who plays by the rules.. You know who you are, this award will not be named  :D.

"You'd better not screw up again, Seinfeld, because if you do, I'll be all over you like a pitbull on a poodle." -Lt. Bookman

Tom, congrats. This is worthy of 12.7 out of 16.4 stars! Of course, that is equivalent to 8.52 stars on an 11 point scale, but I'm really not in favor of the metric star system. Either way, though, quite an achievement! Well done.

Noel,

I am overwhelmed with shock and dismay by winning two Naffys in the same year.  Unbelievable!!  Where will I hide two of these things?

As for the ground game, it was by default.  I can't get the hickories airborne.  And it wasn't a cut; I am lefty.

As for "the horrible task of just being my magic good luck charm", it is kind of a penance thing for me.

As for beating out a world class group of lefties, obviously bribery still is operative in the 21st century.

I really can't accept the "Neil Regan Award".  The winner must be able to use the putter from anywhere.  I couldn't putt the ball from one side of the 12th green at the European Club to the other side with my putter, or with my 3 wood for that matter.

I also implore you to reconsider an award for the good doctor, Childs not MacKenzie.  I won't be able to look him in the eye if he doesn't win one.

Cheers

Mike,

Don't feel too badly for the good Dr. Childs.   At least he was nominated and I'm sure the pros and cons of his qualifications were fully considered for any respective Naffy.

I didn't even get a letter in the mail from the Naffy Nominating Committee.   :-[ :'( ;)

Mike-

If the Naffy's were around in 2001 you would have won Wingman of the year award for your help at the bar in Traverse City!  But the 5 year statute of limitations has run out on that fine prize... But stay tuned, a few more Naffy's to come once my California evil cabalist friend shows the mockup.

Noel,

I'm honoured.

It will go on the mantle beside my 2000 "Ranny." I remember the guy was pretty clever and funny - and his annual awards were very short lived -  I wonder what ever became of him?

As for the lists - after 600 posts - its tough to find new ideas and the lists last for weeks. Probably a sign that the blog has run its course.

Thanks,

Ian

Thank you Naffy,

Those words were most kind.
There is a lot I can share with the project and definately some more interesting spots to come.

I'm sure Ian can write for years to come on his blog - I hope he does.

I was going to post a picture of my Naffy as my 100th, but I may have to reconsider....  :)

Cheers

Classic.  I go away for a couple of weeks and come back to this thread and news that Tommy is leaving, and I haven't even worked through a page of threads.  What else?

Very good picks, anti-Tuco.  Oh, and Tom Dunne deserves a much wider audience beyond the numbskulls on the site (Doak and myself excluded, of course).
