If it could be known in advance that a soon-to-be-built golf course would only exist for 10 years, do you think it would affect its design?
If golf courses were expected to serve faithfully and well only for a season (figuratively speaking) before becoming parks or new subdivisions, how do you think that would change the way they're conceived, built, maintained, and used/appreciated?
I've enjoyed Wayne Morrison's discussions on Flynn designing for the future through elasticity, and I'm interested in fundamental principles and the affect of Time on Quality. But on the other hand, the hit-the-home-run mentality of golf course design seems to make impossible the simplicity and frugality and quiet elegance that I imagine coming with more modest goals.
Thoughts? Thanks
Peter
