NASCAR on the beech at Eie - now there's an idea!

Cricket at The Ship Inn would be a blast but i, I guess, dependent on the tides.

Any inspiration on accomodation?  I don't think there are any hotels left in Elie since the Golf Hotel was turned into flats.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Vis a vis accommodation, we have an insider at the Fairmont-St. Andrews (pka St. Andrews Bay) who is looking into getting us a good rate.  We could also have our gala meal there as well as do some late night golf on the Devlin course, and/or slip into the town of St. Andrews to ogle the co-eds.  Hopefully we'll have a quote soon.  Ther are alternatives in Lundin/Leven/Largo too.

Cheers

It seems we're in excellent hands.  Don't suppose the co-eds will match freshers week in Leeds, though.

Rich,
a friend of mine, who also thinks he may know you, has expressed a serious interest in joining us. He's a pretty fair golfer and could certainly bring a certain je ne sais to the Fife Team.

He has some logistical issues which may eventually count him out of the event, but, in the interim, I'd be grateful if you would be so kind as to add his name to the 'possible' list. I'll try to secure his deposit as soon as is humanitarianly feasible.

His name is Liam MacWilliam. He's single-figurish, I think, at his local club and he is also a pretty keen Archiphile. I've played golf with him a good few times at some pretty nice places and he's always impressed me with his knowledge and interest. Be a good guy to have around the event.

best,
FBD.

Hi Martin

I've added Liam's name to the Home Page.  Thanks too for your check/cheque.  I see it's for 71 guineas, 8 shillings thrupence and is written on parchment paper.  How long have you had that in your wallet? :o

I'm bumping this to highlight recent developments posted on the Home Page/post #1, the most important of which is that we now have 18 players committed to the event and another 5-10 with very strong interest.

While our minimum quota is 24 players, a squad of 30-35 will probably be needed if we expect to fill all the tee times, given that some people are coming only for 2 days, the McBride posse will flit if they get on the ballor for the Old Course on one of the days, and others will probably quite happily only play 18/day.  We are also fortunate in that because a number of us are "local," we can tap on members and friends to fill in any gaps.

That being said, I would strongly encourage anybody interested in this event to speak now or run the risk of having to forever hold your peace.

That being said, if and when we get anywhere close to seeming full capacity, I will:

1.  Try to get "The Committed" to confirm their playing preferences, on a daily basis, as soon as possible, so we can make the event (only slightly) less chaotic than normal.

2.  Up until we reach 24 people with checks received, give preference to those who have put their money where their mouth is, with the exception that current and ex-Captains/Organisers get a certain degree of lenience.

3.  Commit that in the happy event of demand far exceeding current supply (48 available slots for Monday and Tuesday, 24 slots for the Wednesday), I will arrange for "The BUDA Fringe" events for those who commit late, but still want to play golf every day with other GCA.com.ers.

All the best for now

Rich

PS--make that 19 committed

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but I have identified a few nearby places that seem cheap and cheerful enough (from #35-->#70/night B&B) to serve as BUDA HQ.  I'll try to get an idea of availability this week.

Everybody

I know that Bill McBride and 3 of his posse will be staying in St. Andrews (which 3, Bill?).  Other than that, can others please let me know (on here, preferably) if you need a room and if so whether a single or a double?  I'm going to ask the hotels I have in mind what sort of a deal they might have for 15-20 people.

Cheers

Rich, all 8 of ours will be staying in St Andrews, already booked.  We will have 4 in the Vardon House on Murray Place and 3 in a flat I've rented on Market Street, or maybe the other way around.

Rich Goodale

I have provisionally booked 10 rooms at the Crusoe Hotel in Lower Largo (www.crusoehotel.co.uk).  The price will be 60-65 quid for a single room, 40-50 quid for a double.  All "en-suite" (British for private bathroom).  Lower Largo is staggering distance from Lundin Links and can be reached by canoe or outrigger from Elie.  It is a quaint and charming place which provided inspiration for Daniel Defoe in his novel "Robinson Crusoe."

Please let me know (here or privately) if you can commit to this (and whether you want a single or double), so I can firm up the booking.  I'll take a trip up to Largo in the next two weeks to make sure it is still OK (I was there 10+ years ago).

Rich

Please put me down for a single room at the Crusoe – arriving Sunday and departing Wednesday.

My cousin used to live in Upper Largo and I've eaten at the Crusoe a couple of times, but this was probably five or six years ago.  All was OK from what I can remember.

2014 to date: not actually played anywhere yet!
Still to come: Hollins Hall; Ripon City; Shipley; Perranporth; St Enodoc

Tickets are booked and check is in the mail.  Will arrive on Friday before and would be interested in any golf options on Saturday and Sunday.  Hope to make a swing up to Aberdeenshire after for RA, Murcar and Cruden Bay if anyone is interested.
Could put something together pre or post at Panmure as well.
Cheers
Stan

Rich Goodale

Great Stan

Put me on the Panmure possible list, and let me know if you need any help in organising stuff in Aberdeenshire (I could see a BUDA fringe event at Murcar and Royal Aberdeen).

Everybody

We now have 22 people committed, most of whom have also laid down simoleons (see Post #1).  I am not going to bother even thinking about rationing tee times until we get past 30 on the committed list, as some of the 22 are not fully committed to the full 5 rounds/3 days schedule, and we are likely to get dropouts over time, due to unavoidable happenings.  So.....

....if you are at all thinking about participating, think about it as soon as you can, or take the risk of not being able to play the full BUDA in June.

Cheers for now

Rich

PS--I'll move this off of GCA.com in a month or so to save Ran some badnwidth.
