Damon Groves

New Jersey area public courses

Being a West Coast guy I am not familiar with the New Jersey area courses? I have a buddy that lives in Princeton and want to give him some places to check out. Can you guys help out with a list of some public courses in that area?

In the south Jersey:

Twisted Dunes
ACCC
Blue Heron
Pine Hill
Charleston Springs
Hominy Hill

Mercer Oaks has two good courses that are cheap if he gets a county resident card.  Middletown (PA), Heron Glen, Makefield Highlands (PA),  and Neshanic Valley are good, and within 30 minutes of him as well.  Knoll West and Architects are about an hour north of him.

Royce Brook East is convenient to Princeton! The West Course is private. Both were designed by Steve Smyers.

Ballamor, which was recently purchased by Scotland Run, is running a 'member for a day' opportunity via their website.  It's close to the a lot of the Atlantic City area courses.

Also, Sea Oaks is worth checking out in the LBI neighborhood.

Not too far from Princeton, Heron Glen in Hunterdon County near Flemington is a good choice. Neshanic Valley is higher priced for non-residents as it's a county course.

I've only played one round in New Jersey but did enjoy the round quite a bit. We played at Pine Hill which shouldn't be too far from Princeton. When we were there a year ago, it sounded like the course was trying to go private. Anyone know the status of that?

Per my conversation with Pine Hill member recently, it sounds as if the course is becoming more public than it is private.

I have always liked the Bay Course (Donald Ross) at Seaview. Just be sure to check out what time of the year the green flies are out...
