From this week's Sports Illustrated.
Commenting on the day's of Tiger winning a major by a large margin being over.
"Why?  Because with the newest, hottest balls and titanium drivers, everybody can drive the ball 300 yards and straight.  A lot of people can hit the ball high and stop it.  And sooner or later everybody has four days of good putting, as Micheel, an putter 51 weeks a year, did last week at Oak Hill."................"Oak Hill was an equal-opportunity golf course last week.  Artistry took a beating."
They go on a say this is a result of Tiger proofing and they have succeeded in eliminating him as a dominant player in the field.   They also say the intent is "make every major sheer drudgery, like the U.S. Open."
Anything here to disagree with?  I think not.
It must be kept in mind that the elusive charm of the game suffers as soon as any successful method of standardization is allowed to creep in.  A golf course should never pretend to be, nor is intended to be, an infallible tribunal.

US Open courses favor Tiger more than people realize.  Yes he can be wild and he struggles on those weeks.  But Tiger has the best US Open rough short game in the world.

Why eliminate him as the dominant player?  He's the best player in the world, shouldn't he win more titles than anyone?  Obviously some courses suit his game better than others, but being the best player golf favors him.
