Anyone want to join me?  It looks like they have a special end of season rate of $95.  Tee sheet is pretty open so we need to decide on a time and get to filling.  http://www.erinhills.com/home.cfm

I have somewhere between a long eight and a short ten so far.  I have already expanded my tee times to include both 11:30 and the one after.

With the fall back in time you need to realize that 11:30 ain't what it used to be.  It is my intention with darkness approaching near 4:30 for us to be the last group of a great first year.

I need firm commitments tomorrow and I will lock up a third time so we can have at least 12...I would prefer 16.

I have not asked for caddies and am planning on taking a push cart myself.

Sorry, I have prior commit.  But, you can't go wrong for dinner here... it has the Hendren/Daley hillbilly'n cheesehead seal of approval.

John,

I played Erin Hills a few months ago and really liked it.  Two things, with the terrain there I would not reccomend a push cart.

Here's my advice.  Take 1 4 bag cart for your group.  The course is walkable, as I walked most of it without riding much, but its best to do so without the push cart.  The terrain just isn't ideal for a push cart.

We took a 4 caddie and was never so thankful that we did so in my life.  Our caddie was excellent, one of the best hustling kids I've ever had and can get you his name if you wish.  It's very easy to lose balls, and he really helps with both finding them and also giving you the best line on a lot of holes.  Even with the 4 caddie it was a 5 hour round.  I believe it is a 5 hour round for everyone especially with the extra hole that is between 9 and 10.

Let me know what you think after your round there.  Enjoy!!!

Oh, BTW, that town of Erin as you will see by the road names and all, is very Irish.  You might meet some of the members of one of the prominent families, and I'll call ahead to let them know you're coming.  There is the Sherrif and his brother, a deputy, and I think their other brother is the Chef, and some of their youngsters are a forecaddies.  The family name is McConkey.  If you meet any of them - on your way out there or returning late at night on the dark windy roads, or at the restaurant/tavern after the round, say Hi for me.  Happy motoring, buon appettito, Sláinte, Céad Míle Fáilte!  And try to stay in the short grass :P :o 8) ;D

For those playing in this I received an email from Lawsonia, saying that their rate for the rest of the season is $25 :o :o :o including cart if you want one.

I say pretty confidently that it is one of the best deals in all of golf at that price.

Where is it exactly that a guy can not get a drink?  I will be ready to roll at 11 am on Saturday and have considered going to Lawsonia but will need to make different overnight accomodations if this is the case.

Seems like Madison-Lawsonia-Madison-Erin Hills is an inefficient plan.

What is the story on the on-site accomodations at Erin Hills?  The hotel linked on the web site seems pricey.

Why is November 4th the last day of the season?

No snow on the ground there, is there?

John:

There is no alcohol allowed on the grounds of Lawsonia, which is part of a larger conference center. You can stay on the grounds at Lawsonia, in a variety of accomodations and price ranges, but you'd do well to call soon if that's your choice. Green Lake proper (Lawsonia is about a mile outside the small town) has a range of housing options; the Heidel House is the priciest and best. Lawsonia-Madison-Erin Hills is quite inefficient, but there's not much in between Green Lake and Hartford, the nearest town of any size near Erin Hills. Mr. McGuire might provide insights into West Bend-area accomodations.

On the other hand, there are plenty of good supper clubs in the area, as Mr. Daley well knows. IM me if you need/want more details.

I was told to stop by Fox and Hound Restaurant by someone who grew up in this area.  Is it still there and worth a stop?

Ken and JK, Fox and Hounds was one of the premier restaurants in Wis.  It has scaled down, under new management, and is closed Mondays, (I don't know about Sun)  It is on the same road as Alpine that I recommend, about 1/4 mile further.  It ain't what it used to be.

JK, I don't understand if you are going to Madtown, EH, and then Laws.  If so, after EH head to Laws and stay anywhere in Fond du Lac on Hwy 41 or Ripon on hyway 23, both on the way to Green Lake.  There are all kinds of motel choices and I'm sure no vacancy problems.  I recently found that the Red Barn on corner of Hwys 23 and 44 in Ripon maybe the best breakfast in Wisconsin.   Run by Greeks, I could not believe what all they serve for 7-9 bucks!!!  :o

Try the McConkey Inn, where you can check in but never get checked out.  :P

John Kavanaugh
Mike McGuire
Ken Fry and two friends (one firm)
Michael Phelan
Jim Dawson

Looks like the 10 above are firm...We could use two more.  If anyone wants to make a weekend of it I am up to playing Erin Hills on both Saturday and Sunday.  If need be I would also venture up to Lawsonia on Saturday.  I will be in my car rolling out of Madison with clubs at 11 am on Saturday.

I'd love to.  No can do. My wife is in Tehran through Sunday so I'm Mr. Momming it...bummer.

You're free to come over on the way up for a meal or a drink or whatever, depending on when you're going up.  I'm 3 minutes off 94.

I was surprised to get a non-stop flight from St. Louis to Madison.  It only takes me 3 hours to get to the St. Louis airport where I arrive 2 hours early and have a one hour and 15 minute flight.  A total of 6 hours and 15 minutes.  Yahoo maps says it would take 6 hours and 6 minutes to drive from Lawrenceville to Madison.  Oops.

If I can't get a game Saturday I'm afraid I might end up in Ho Chunk.

John:

Well, the Ho Chunk "casino" on the east side of Madison is a glorified bingo parlor; I'm not sure how old you are, but your mere presence would certainly bring down the average age of the patrons there.

The big casino is up near Wisconsin Dells, about 45 minutes via semi-backroads northwest of Madison.
