A suggestion for the forum

I suggest that whenever anyone is introducing a golf course on a thread that they identify it by the architect and the location, and not use acronyms. The date of construction, if known, might also be appropriate.

It would make the forum much more enjoyable for people like me who haven't already played the world's top 1000.

Steve - have that many people used acronyms and the like in Topic lines?  I sure haven't seen that...

I concur we do through out acronyms a little too freely around here - there are several different "SH"s, for example - and while most know what NGLA means, some don't.

It just does get tedious typing National Golf Links of America... and Shinnecock Hills.... or Sand Hills....

But we all could be well served to remember that not all have played these courses, nor know what the hell the acronyms refer to.  On the other hand, all readers would be well served to read an entire thread, where the course name is damn near always spelled out before acronyms are used.

That's my two cents, anyway.

Steve,

Using TLA's around here is SOP. It's likely you'll be SOL on this request.

Gee, and I was embarrassed to ask what GCGC was...Is it Garden City Men's Club, wgich I have played, or another course that I have not?

One further request along the same lines:  Unless it's a quiz of some sort, please identify courses & hole #s when posting pics.  I understand that the 7th at Aronimink or Quaker Ridge (or wherever) is instantly recognizable to 50 or so people on this site, but the rest of us would be grateful.

It took me awhile but you do get the hang of it. And as Tom said it can get tiresome typing out course names. Also I find you can ask what something stands for without criticism.

Like I said, it would be good to have the course name when introducing the topic, acronyms are acceptable for reference in the rest of the thread.

For example, one writes, "Hunt Valley Golf Club (HVGC), Marlyand, by Ault, cerca 1966...", and thereafter in the thread "HVGC" does just fine.

That should just be SOP.

And Joe, I'm still annoyed about those 36 inch roots of yours.
