Greenskeeper's Revenge

Handicap season has closed, so this Saturady we are having a Greenskeeper's Revenge Day. He gets to set the course up as hard as he wants, use all the crazy pin positions that members bitch about, use a few back tees, etc.

Not an original concept, but maybe a fun idea that some of you (like Adam Clayman??) might want to implement.

I have very fond memories of Monster Day at Pinon Hills. It was every Halloween and as described, diabolical in nature. But, also (with the right attitude) the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

Riviera used to have a Blue Monster Day.....some quite remarkable pin positions. I wonder if it is still held.

We do that occasionally at our club and it's not relegated to the non-handicap season.  Typically, one Friday a month is set up in this manner.  It's so crazy, it's ridiculous.  But it does allow for some serious money to change hands!

Can you imagine how much fun Ballyneal would be if it was set up in this manner a time or two?

After one round at Pinon Hills ... it seems to me that every day could be Monster Day on those greens.

We do it and most people really like it.We even use the maintenance equipment as extra hazards.Nothing like trying to hit a hard hooking putt around a greens' roller.

We had ours last Sunday.  I shot par, triple, par, par, par, par, double, par, bogie, par, par, bogie, par, 18(on a par 3!), par, bogie, double, triple.

The trouble hole was situated right at the edge of a classic Donald Ross fall-off.  Apparently I don't know enough to make sure I'm all the way up...

No swearing or throwing clubs though.  I would have finished second in the first division had I scored a prosaic 11 on the hole :).  Today I practised the three-wood chip up the hill!

If you ever look at an overhead view of Oak Ridge Golf Course, a George Fazio course in Feeding Hills, MA, the 16th hole there has the ultimate Greenskeeper's Revenge-type finger of green that just out into a pond.  I someday hope to play to that pin; it looks like a treasure.

Dan, I feel those are some great modern greens. But the reality is they are not as difficult as they might seem on the surface or after one round. BTW, on Monster day we played double bogey max.

This tournament was discontinued at my former club because most just wanted to shoot a score rather than have a fun event.

I remember such stuff as a green with 3 flags but only one hole, a tractor placed in front a green and a hole placed at the top of severe back to front sloped green.

Our hard day is the Big Kahuna in the summer. Greens triple rolled, double cut, play from the tips plus from tees usually on other holes.

re: the fun tournament we placed a (disinfected) urinal seat w/open front,  facing the opening towarfds the rear of a severely sloped green.
