Lebanon Country Club (Pennsylvania)

I had the opportunity to play this course three to four weeks ago and was pretty impressed.  There are a few risk/reward situations, but it's generally "right there in front of you" as some have said.  That's not to say that its boring.  There is nuance and intrigue in it's design.

The golf course was in great shape.

On the front, the 3rd (par 3), the 4th (par 4), and the 9th (par 3) stand out as great holes.

The back 9 had some great holes as well.

The 10th is a great uphill par 5.  The 11th is a very demanding par 4.  You've got to hit 2 great shots to get on there.  The 12th is a beautiful downhill par 3.  The 13th is a shorter par 4 played to a green just beyond a creek.  The 15th is a great par 5.  It reminds me of 5 West (a par 4) at Ridgewood with the green sitting back up on a hill with trees on either side.  And the 18th is a great finishing hole.

I am surprised I don't hear more about Alexander Findlay on this website.  What is he known for?  Who was he influenced by?  Is he considered part of the Philadelphia school?

Alex Findlay has been discussed here often:

I've heard good things about Lebanon but have not played there yet.

Here is the website:

The course looks very narrow off the tee. Is there any tree work being done?

Steve,
None that I saw.  From the aerial, it might appear to be narrow, and who knows, maybe I've just been desensitized to what "narrow" really is, but I don't remember having a whole lot of tree problems.

I do remember trees between 4 and 5 trees were a factor, but I never consistently stood on the tee and thought, "Oh crap, how am I gonna thread the needle on this one?"

Hi Justin,

Good to see you here!

I've not played Lebanon (hope to before long as it's pretty close to where I live these days), but we've had a LOT of discussion about Findlay and his courses here over the past few years.

Try the "search" feature, and then once that comes up, click on "Advanced Search".   On that screen, type in "Findlay" (omitting the quotation marks) , leave most of the default values alone but go down and change "Days Since Last Post" to 9999 and then go below and change "Display How Many Results?" to 999 and have at it.

I guarantee there is enough there to start a book!  ;D
