Informational DVD on Repairing Pitchmarks
« on: February 26, 2009, 04:01:34 PM »
Like most clubs we have problems with unrepaired pitchmarks. We are looking to put a DVD playing on a continuous loop in the locker rooms. Has anybody come across any informational DVDs on repairing pitch marks? If so, where would I get one?

Thanks, Padraig.

Maybe not exactly what you want, but the USGA had one.I've seen it in the last ~ 2 years because we looked at doing something similar.

There is also a divot repair tool manufacturer who puts one out describing how to use their tool and why their's is better.I'll try to find the name.

Continuous?!?!

Interesting I suppose, but doesn't it all boil down to the membership/golfing public to have the self motivation to do it themselves?

The idea is a very good one even if only a handfull of members are educated on why we repair pitchmarks and how to repair pitchmarks properly it will be well worth the effort imo.

The long term solution must be in teaching the beginers/junoirs when they first START .

When i learned the game i was taught to repair two pitchmarks on every green and it quickly became ingrained as a pre shot routine /drill /good habbit .

I would be interested to see the usga dvd or any others out there also Padraig.

Love this idea.  I think we will take it a step further and make a personalized 2-3 minute video on course care including ball mark repair, divot repair, raking bunkers, and maybe a few other reminders like picking up loose trash when they see it.   I think I would rather run it on our proshop/check in tv's rather than in the lockerroom, as that is the place some like to sit and relax, while most only spend a few minutes in the proshop and hopefully won't be annoyed by the continuity.

Padraig,

When you do finally get your hands on one of these can you kindly mail it to all the public courses in Northern Utah.  The golf here is good at a great value but for the life of me I can't figure out why people don't fix thier ball marks.

I played a course in Provo last year where some of the greens were almost unputtable due to the massive craters just everywhere.

P.S.  You can bill that McBride guy for all the acquisition and shipping costs...he's loaded!!  ;D  ;)

It's the height of either obliviousness, carelessness, or arrogance to land a shot of any length onto a green and not at least look for any damage that may have resulted, and then fix it, and another other obvious nearby damage.

Even if the approach was a screaming liner that ripped through the green and into OB beyond, one should feel the need to be responsible and do the right thing.

It blows my mind that folks treat golf courses so poorly.

Padraig,
You can find what you need on You Tube, at pitchmarkgolf.com, or by doing a search of "pitch mark repair videos".
I'll bet you can even find a DVD on TV repair, I'd get that too.  ;) ;D

We used a handheld camera, filmed a 2 minute spot with our Head Super and Pro and put it on the website.

It's probably next to impossible to do in these economically recessed times, but there used to be a public golf course owner in NE PA back in my teens who would sit in the top floor window of the clubhouse with binoculars.

If he saw someone on the course fail to replace a divot, he'd fly down the steps, hop into his golf cart, race out to the offender and read the riot act!

Don't ask me how I knew.   :-\

Repeated, or particularly egregious acts were met with public golf's version of the Death Penalty...instant banishment.  Fortunately, I was a quick learner.

We made this at our course using our head pro and superintendent.  Its short, quick and to the point.  I suggest using your own people and a local video company.  This one cost us $275.
