Two that come to mind are the 11th at RCD, where I seriously considered a pop up tee shot to clear the ridge and of course, the 6th at Riviera.

Andy, I wasn't clear. I was referring to the 4th as a quasi-Redan.  I offered that as possible evidence that Hills was inspired by a template or two, namely the Bottle Hole template for the 8th. I figured if he could include something like the Redan out there, maybe he could include something like the Bottle.

Mark

Mark, ahhh, that makes much more sense!  I've played Blue Mash several times, but never tried--can you bounce one in from high right on #4?
By the way, I have essentially settled into your default position on the tee. Aim a little to the right and hit it hard.  That you have adopted my strategy should worry you...

"And I'm still interested to see whether anyone thinks the WTF 8th hole is Bottle-like"

Mark, I'll bite. No, I don't believe it is Bottle-like.  My sense of a Bottle is a choice right or left divided by a few bunkers roughly in the middle, with one side being easier to hit but leaving the tougher second shot.  I don't get that with your wtf hole. From the rounds I have seen everyone tries to hit over the long bunker, and the choice is which line to choose of the infinite right to left options based on length.

PS I too like the 16 hole. It is graceful, and the dogleg bunker is well done and at a good distance.

My issue with your Eden hole is it softness--my ball has plugged on that green, and it would be so much better if having to account for the bounce and roll.

I am also a fan of #3. It has an impressive sense of scale, and though it plays long I find the shots inviting and interesting.

PPS Two more wtfs for me at Blue Mash--#1: Still have no sense of where to even aim on the tee, and #14; why did they forget to build a fairway?
