Here in the north, most courses get by with about 3-6 full time, spending time in winter sharpening reel blades, overhaul maintenance of machinery, inventory and planning next years orders, tree trimming work, and not killing themselves on a daily basis, making up for the long hard stressfilled hours of in-season.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Tiger,
Like birds, they go south. We go from about 45 to around a dozen for our 36 holes. The question remains about their return.

They head back to their Hispanic country and live like kings.

What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

I think Miss State, Penn State and Michigan State look for that sort of talent. Tennessee dreams of being a turf school. lol We call it Kentucky envy. I am asking if any of the legal workers(12month availability) goes to Florida or other points south.

In the Mountains, most of my guys go to the ski resort for winter work.  The ski season fits really well with the golf season.  I keep 3 guys for equpment maintenance/snow removal and ski trail grooming.   I myself hit the slopes 4 days a week...

Those days are just about a month away ;D ;D

They file for unemployment and then come down to Florida and get side work. Seriously.

Here at Deal the guys are busier doing "real" work in the winter than the summer. Most summer work is cutting grass and keeping the course in order.

In the winter all the major works take place including digging out up to 10 bunkers and revetting them, building new tees, bunkers & paths, etc and more agronomical greenkeeping work. This year we are having placements who will be learning revetting from Gordon Irvine our course consultant and Master Greenkeeper.

Obviously the summer days start earlier as there are more golfers on the course whereas the hard labour is squeezed into less daylight hours in the winter.

In the Northeast some of the hardy ones work on projects such as irrigation installation and pond revovation. Irrigation can be done in the cold weather with cold weather glue or HDPE. I remember fondly a day on Cape Cod when it was 6 degrees and windy and we installed pipe.

Some go home to Latin America and have plenty of fun money-as said in a previous post.
