Here's a new public course down the road from State College for all of the Penn Staters (and Mike Cirba too) to check out.

"Freestone was designed and built by our primary organizer, James Polinchok. Mr. Polinchok is a graduate of Penn State and has been involved with the golf industry for 25 years. In the past, Mr. Polinchok has built golf courses across the country for notable architects such as Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye, and Tom Weiskopf to name a few. He has incorporated design elements from these experiences into the creation of Freestone."

Does anyone know Polinchok?

Anyone know the story on the state's most challenging hole, "The Gauntlet"?

Apparently, "The Gauntlet" hole is the second hole, a 575y par5 with a big boulder in the fairway that must be carried off the tee shot. Pictures will be posted on the website eventually.

Polinchok is a former golf course super and construction guy now turned developer.

Thanks for the heads-up, Steve.

I'll probably wait til sometime in 08, as it doesn't seem the back nine is ready yet.

I love how "Port Matilda" is nowhere near an ocean, a bay, or even a river tributary.

They should have named it Port Matilda Links.  ;)
