Aerial of the Day #176 - 20 Aug 2002
« on: August 20, 2002, 05:49:23 AM »
Does Mr. Slate run this place?

It's certainly interesting how you can start to recognize
architects' work from the air, as each has a certain style that
is recognizable based on previous aerials.  This one is no
exception to me, despite the greens being "under wraps".

If Mr. Slate runs the place, then that means Fred Flintstone works here.

The last aerial from this area had the most views and
discussion of any AOTD so far.

Got it.  Another good clue.  Obviously anyone
over the age of 30 knows that Fred
Flinstone works for Mr. Slate.  But his work
site is the key....

Pretty weird photo - greens covered,
some fairways green, most brown... very
interesting indeed.

Don't necessarily need to over 30, Huckster, as two Flinstone
movies have been made in the last 8 years.   ::)  I hate to
admit it, but I saw the first one.  Hey, at least Halle Berry
was in it.   :o

The Flintstones are also still on TV on one of those stations,
Nickolodeon/TV Land/TBS/Cartoon Network.  Would have
been interesting to have the real "Honeymooners" do the voices.

Scott - good point.  I just hearken back
to watching the Flintsones on
"regular" TV!

I saw the one with Halle Berry also...
I believe I'd watch her reading the
phone book.   ;)

Is a certain modest hotel chain based in this town, it's namesake?

This golf-laden area would certainly be considered a
golf "hotbed", now that it is summer.

I'll assume that this is in the Palm Springs area, and
that the prior course which generated so much
discussion is PGA West.

Was it designed by somebody's "Buddy"?

This place is so PRIVATE that they don't
even want us to see it from the air!! ;D

I can't pick the waterfall out either!

Not quite PGA West

Music trivia clue:

I guess the Beatles (before they were the Beatles) sould like
they would be considered members here?

A waterfall.  And in the land of Ted Robinson, too.

This architect has another course by the same name (sort
of), near the last AOTD shown that was designed by him.  That course was "sandy", as the like named course
are "rocky".

Back in a few hours....

This is The Quarry, in La Quinta, CA, by Tom Fazio.

The waterfall is by the 10th hole, and I'm guessing that it
gets fed by the stream on #17 (hole in top left of main
section of holes), and falls just by the 10th green, to the SE
of the 17th green.

clues include:

"Fred Flintstone" works in "Mr. Slate's" rock "quarry".

As SPDB pointed out, most viewed AOTD thread was Palm
Springs area's PGA West.

golf "hotbed" = Palm Springs area

"modest hotel chain" in town of same name = "La Quinta"

The Beatles' name before they were the Beatles, making
them sound like members here = "The Quarrymen"

Ted Robinson has built many a waterfall in southern California.

last AOTD done by Fazio = "sandy" World Woods (Pine
Barrens), which is near other "rocky" Fazio of the same name
= "Quarry" course at Black Diamond Ranch.
