"Thought for the day:
Is there ANY American course that demonstrates the "John Kirk Effect" (ball roll interestingly) as well as the average reasonably good GBI course?
If so, name them. If not, Why?"
Richard the Magnificent:
This is a very fine question, a huge one, in fact.
I think most all of us know why just about every American course is not this way.
However, for one that is, I guess I can give you NGLA today. It seems like they are back to total fairway acreage that might match or even exceed in some places the way the course was originally designed and intended.
Not just that but the place is fast, fast, fast.
As for another course that doesn't have it's original fairway acreage but is fast, fast, fast like the GBI courses in dry conditions, I give you Myopia.
I just had a report from the recent member/guest and they said the "though the green" speed of the course was almost insane.
To me this is a great thing. Even if it might seem insane to some at the very least it does show how a golf ball can bounce and roll and truck around ground contours at maximum speed.
When you are on a golf course and you hear golfers bellowing after full shots "Whoa, whoa, WHOA" you can be assured you are in the presence of the most IDEAL MAINTENANCE MELD!
Apparently Myopia was "Mallowesque" as I experienced that summer in '99.
