Kenosha Country Club
« on: October 10, 2019, 08:12:21 PM »
Just played it today - an underrated gem.   Perhaps, the best golf course between Milwaukee and Shoreacres.  A Donald Ross course being restored currently.    Terrific property and worth checking out!

I’ll post some pictures, but especially liked the 15th hole - a terrific par 4 that reminds me of the 14th at OFCC North.

That’s great to hear. Drew Rogers is (somewhat quietly) doing some really terrific work at a variety of golden age courses.

I was out there last summer and there is much to love.  The tree felling had begun and overall the course was in good condition.

Two discordant notes which I hope does not prevent anyone from going - I would go back in a heartbeat.  First, there are two holes on the back mine with only one pin position due to slopes and modern green speeds.  Also the final hole, iirc was treed so the landing area was quite small.

But the greens are pure Ross.

John,

I didn’t care for the 10th hole which appears just forced on the property.  Weird look from tee with out of bounds right and fescue left.

I think they’ve removed the trees on 18 and played with enough space.

I went to Kenosha with Drew a few years ago, before he started work. The club is not rich, and so isn't going to be doing any enormous projects, but frankly I think that is all to the good. Let Drew do his thing there quietly for a couple of years. It's already lovely and will be stunning.

Drew has made a real difference at Old Elm and Knollwood here in Chicago. Very noteworthy.

No question Drew does great work, and has been involved in some amazing projects!
(Drew has also been involved in work at Knollwood CC (IL), I understand)

Pace of implementation is deliberate at Kenosha CC.

I recall trees on either side of 18 fwy on the downslope from upper level down to green level.

I clearly remember the two trees on the left of the fairway! (I had to pitch out from behind one of them).

Are those trees still there?

In the latest Google Earth image from Dec 2018 I do see some tree work in progress, but the aforementioned trees on 18 are still there  :D

Agree that it doesn't get the attention it deserves.  Well worth checking out.
