Southern Hills and Keith Foster
« on: August 06, 2007, 12:56:31 PM »
Architect Keith Foster has done much restoration work at Southern Hills.  For those who have first hand knowledge, has he been successful?  Does the course reflect more of an update or stay true to the Maxwell look?  According to Golfweek, holes 9 and 18 needed actual modification because of the steepness of the greens which Maxwell had.

One could say that the problems with 9 and 18 were not with the green slopes, but the speeds at which greens are maintained these day. Maxwell certainly never envisioned those speeds.

For a nice write-up check out Chris Clouser's essay..

They also moved the 18th green to the left during the recent rebuild which takes some of the trees on the right out of play.

Proved to be an excellent course for this years PGA.  Keith Foster has done good work there.

Could you detail the restoration work alluded to above ?

What holes and what features did he restore ?

Thanks

Actually I wanted to know as well.  What triggered the question was the Golfweek article from a couple of issues ago.
