« on: August 08, 2007, 11:11:00 AM »
I gather that the issue is out. I don't have mine yet. Can anyone post the new rankings? Thanks!

Someone has to have the issue in hand--how about just the highlights?

Please just go buy the magazine and keep it to yourself.  I have friends that work there and they just might need the circulation numbers.

When do subscribers' get their issue? I have not seen mine yet, but look forward to seeing how Golf Mag compares to GD and GW.

How is their panel coming along? I heard they purged the whole panel at one point. Is this true?

I've heard about it, but haven't seen it yet.

The results (as far as our own most recent work) are that one of our clients will be very happy, and another not as happy.

Jim F:  They did not actually purge the whole panel.  When a new editor and a new editor-in-charge-of-rankings took over, they "started over" and considered each panelist and whether they wanted to keep them ... but I believe the majority of the previous panel is still intact.

Thanks Tom for clearing that up for me. I would have been shocked if they started over so that makes sense.

the "07 list has not been posted on the website as of Th am..

GD had 6 "new" (to their list) added this spring to their "07 list...( lost dunes, calusa, mpcc shore, tullymore, sycamore hills and cassique).....for those who pay attention to these lists ( no rants pls) it will be interesting to see what the reconstituted Golf panel will present...it apears, imo, that they have in the past identified/hilighted more of the "classics" than GD...will that continue? we'll see shortly.....

What is it about Pinehurst #2 that merrits such a high ranking? It is not a visually stunning course. Are the design elements that outstanding?
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Tom,

One question: did Kingsley make the top 100 in the US?

Thanks!

While I am sure it pains some to see Royal Melbourne drop a few notches on the list, it is about time that it is ranked as Royal Melbourne West and no longer the composite course.

Great news on Ballyneal and much deserved.  ;D

I suspect the course's profile will rise now as playing conditions have so dramatically improved from the opening last year.  As more folks are exposed to the course as it is meant to be played, they will see something truly special.

That's interesting to me as well... even more so is that RM East checks in at #72!

I think that GOLF mag. has a severe credibility problem here. How can they publish an article that states that Pebble Beach & Pinehurst #2 are among the three MOST OVERRATED courses and then rank them as #5 & 17 IN THE WORLD just a short time later?

Seriously, is there anyone from the magazine on here who can give any sort of reasonable answer for it that doesn't contain the phrase "to sell magazines?"

Peter - just got the US list - sorry, no Kingsley.  Can we now say that the GM panel is as clueless as my poor beleagured GD brethren?

 ;)

Another interesting new inclusion.... Sebonack... but at a not so Pascucci-pleasing #76....

No sir - a friend sent me a scan with the lists.  US list is interesting to say the least... some very big ommissions... Bandon Dunes, Bandon Trails, Wild Horse, Rustic Canyon... not to mention Kingsley....

That's easy. If they weren't ranked so high, they wouldn't be overrated...

Richard,

Think... THEY are the ones who both rank them that high and then state that they are OVERRATED...
