Update from Long Shadow...
« on: August 05, 2007, 10:42:45 AM »
played 36 yesterday at LSGC and it is coming along fine....the fairways are really starting to grow in (thanks to some rain this past month), the greens are still very smooth and starting to lose their softness

they had the pin on #6 in the back left corner yesterday (about 10 feet from the collar...a real PGA Tour type pin)

hit it wide on #10, #11 and #18 you will be lucky to find it...and they have cut some of the jungle down

I am really starting to appreciate how great the start to the back nine is....#10 is a GREAT hole...a winding dog leg left down the hill...#11 is a punishing uphill par 4 at 461 from the golds (480 from the blacks)...better hit it straight and long (at least it usually plays down-wind..or a with a helping cross wind)....#12 looks to be an easy down-hill par 5, but you really have to make a good decision on your 2nd shot...push or pull your 2nd and you are in trouble...

a great day in 95+ heat with humidity, but what else is there to do in Georgia in August!  ;D

Michael -

Kudos for 36 in the heat yesterday. I played 18 in Atlanta and it was more a survival test than a round of golf. I'm staying inside today.

Long Shadow is a very good course. It's not to be missed. Mike took some risks and successfully pulled off every one of them, imho. It's a big, bold course. I'm looking forward to getting back - but I think I'll wait for this heat wave to pass.

Michael,

Wondering how you played your approach to #6 with the
back left pin placement.

Also, did you factor it in off the tee?

hit driver both times from golds...had about 137 to middle both times....just tried to put it on front right to middle of green both times...FAILED both times...first stayed on back fringe, second went down bank a little....couldn't get up and down both times...left green with 5 and shaking my head!

playing partner on 2nd 18 had SW for approach....tried to hit draw to pin....pushed it into marsh...took 6

other partner flew bunker on left (had less than 100 in) and tried bump and run just right of tree....got more run than bump and rolled into marsh...took 6

I am not good enough to factor pin position into my tee shot...just tried to hit it straight......for the seasoned player, I guess the line would be right side of FW along the hazard...gives the best line of attack into that pin....but go in the hazard, good luck finding it!

haven't played it yet with pin front right...that is a very dangerous pin to try to attack...hit it 2 to 5 yds too long...CYA
