I dunno if I want to be that guy.....but CPC has back-to-back par 5s at #s 5 and 6.  It is most certainly a great course.  I do have a soft spot though, as my Tedesco has back-to-back 5s at 9 and 10.
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

Lytham, Baltusrol-Lower, Cypress Point all have back-to-back par-5s, never thought it was a problem. So does Wampanoag.

Its not Cypress Point, but add Lakota Canyon to the list of impressive courses with back-to-back par fives.

Mr. Hixson's piece was very interesting, I hope that when I someday get to Bandon that I play all the courses that will be there by then :)

I don't see a problem with back to back par 5's - twice. In this course they will all play diferently, and if my fallible memory serves, three of the five par 5s run downhill for the majority of their run.  (Disclaimer... I have not played the course.)

#4 runs down with a perched green up high. . .
#5 runs down with the green in the lowlands (also an alternative green behind an old delapidated corral with (swinging from the wind w/ rusty hinges?) gate above bunker.  It's not the SafeCo Field (Seattle) train but it's iconic.

front nine
4,4,4,5,5,3,4,4,3

back
4,3,5,5,3,4,4,3,5    Thanks Michael (the savant) Dugger)

#12 runs uphill with dogleg but the approach area to the green levels out (but with a hidden Valley of Sin).
#13 runs, and I mean runs downhill. I think it was a long one for the back tees on the border with Mordor.

#18 brings us home along a hookers nightmare if winds are from the north but the large leftwardly canted dip in the middle will add suspense even for the well struck shot.

Even though this course will allow carts, I don't envision the walk being a slog. Though it has plenty of elevation changes, it's not life threatening.

Jacobsen's Creekside in Salem. Brilliantly routed par 5s (12,13) provide two terrace levels across a hillside providing enough premium housing sites with excellent views. Virtually no houses on 14 holes. Emoticon.

It would be interesting to see if the unusual sequencing feels like a natural progression of the routing, or if it seems a bit contrived as an homage to nearby Pacific Dunes.

I haven't played the course so I cannot chime in on how it will feel but don't think it's done "as an homage" to anybody unless you personify the land that it resides upon.  The routing is bold and creative on some very challenging topography on ancient duneland that became forested, then cleared for cattle, then ultimately, gloriously, into a golf course.
I don't mean to set up the course for anti-climactic golf, but few, even myself, the puritanical thug that Richard of Aberdour has trained me to be, will have any gripes about this place.

Aside from being very affordable, with interesting designs (greens approaches, some higher than the greens, hallelujah!) it gets us through the town of Bandon.  I get a little miffed at hearing people head all the way to Bandon Dunes yet never leave the resort. I suppose that's good for the resort's profits, and that is great for golf's links-trend appreciation, and wish them continued success, but gosh, we golfers can sure get singlemindedly tunnel-visioned when we travel.
Anyway,  IMHO Bandon Crossings will only add to town of Bandon's mystique as a golf haven.

Royal St. Husum Hills National TPC starts out with two par 5's.  So does it's back nine*.

Slag,

you gonna go play it soon?  Look me up, let's get down there, old boy!
What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

The Tony Russell bunkers are looking fantastic!  Love the grass contrast too.

Definately going to play this course soon...

The Bandon Crossings Web site appears to have been updated.

They have a picture of every hole at:
