Brian,

It looks like the weather is taking Tiger's 2 iron stinger out of play.

What's the forecast? Do you think the course will firm up enough even if the rains stop?
"And so," (concluded the Oldest Member), "you see that golf can be of
the greatest practical assistance to a man in Life's struggle.”

Surely we can count on the R&A to guarantee the Championship is conducted under the Rules of Golf. I'd assume there is a near-zero chance of the committee caving in to the players and allowing "Lift, Clean and Cheat". Right?

Well, Sabbatini should be nicely wound-up by being paired with Sean O'Hair.
Splosh! One of the finest sights in the world: the other man's ball dropping in the water - preferably so that he can see it but cannot quite reach it and has therefore to leave it there, thus rendering himself so mad that he loses the next hole as well.

I have never seen a summer for Forecasters getting it totally wrong so....

It looks like its more of the same , a mixture of sun and showers .

At least it looks like being breezy .

Brian, Thanks for the link to the wildlife booklet.  Good for the R&A.  Golf is generally thought of as being rather ecologically unsound by those who don't know anything about it.  There is a fantastic amount of good work being done at golf courses throughout the country and further afield, too.  Let's hope the ignorant begin to notice before too long.

When the gates opened at 6.30am this morning , out of breath , I eventually caught up with Tiger at the 7th , and followed him in from there.

And as far as I could see , it was a mixture of stingers with a 2 iron and 3 wood .

The only driver I saw him hit was at 18 , which I thought was surprising .

He hit a 2 iron stinger at 11 that barely rose above waist height , which really is amazing the first time you see it .

It was a lovely morning , with no wind at all , when Tiger-Bjorn-O'Meara played .

Then the wind picked up and it was really blusterly around lunchtime , so much so I heard Steven Ames moaning about how it was going to f*** up his swing , so he was only playing 9 .

The Draw has been made .

Cant believe its Woods-Lawrie-Rose !

I can't believe it either, since I'd read several articles in the last couple of weeks stating that the British Amateur champion (American/VT student Drew Weaver) historically plays the first two rounds with the reigning Open champion.

I haven't read anything as to why the tradition apparently has been broken (if it was in fact that way).  The good news for Drew is that his nervousness level should be greatly reduced (not playing w/Tiger + his massive galleriess).

I followed Master Weaver today for a few holes and he seemed to be holding his own playing with Stewart Cink and JJ Henry .

I have said this before , but why cant they do something different with left of 18 ? .

Its bloody ugly !

Speaking of Drew Weaver (an American winning the British
Am), here's a trivia question:

When was the first year that an American golfer held the
British Amateur title at the same time that a British golfer
held the U.S. Amateur title?

Nope. No British winner of the U.S. Amateur during that time.

The answer is 2007(!).

This is the first time an American golfer has held the British
Am title (Drew Weaver) at the same time a British golfer has
held the U.S. Am title (Richie Ramsay).

I have come to find out that the articles I read were wrong about this (non-)tradition.

And if you are going to Carnoustie this week , here's a tip, try an Arbroath Smokie from this stall across from the merchandise tent.

The only thing that brightened a right crappy day yesterday.

For the benefit of those who are not acquainted with Scottish cuisine, I would like to point out that this picture has nothing to do with the other thread on drug taking in golf.
