I suspect if you're familiar with the course, you'd love the simple elegance of the photos.

#4 (Short-like) and #7 (nice deep bunkers, grass faces) both look Raynoresque.  I haven't played enough Tillinghast to know if there is a lot of Raynor look to the Tillinghast masterpieces.

That is a beautiful looking course.  Have to ask the members if the trees are as few as on these photos from 1926!

Well the members of BCC that hang out here are most definitely playing rathing than talking golf on a day like today. Thus, I will say as an occasional guest, yes there are more trees but the trees that are at BCC today are very rarely in play, and often offer some nice shade on a summer day. Five Farms is a good name, as you feel like you are on a farm. We will see the course in October on TV for the Senior's Players Championship.

PS. The new course seems to be more through the trees, but I have only played 9 or so holes on it as a warm-up.

Sweeney, GREAT GREAT GREAT find.  Excellent work.  I hope it looks just like that when I play it..or at least close...how close is it to what we see there?

Mike, might your "dead guys" include Strantz?

Mike, didn't Keith Foster just complete a restoration there?  I think I remember Phil Young telling me something of the sort.  It included tree removal, if I'm not mistaken.

Why, yes he did. I answered my own question. Here's a link to Keith's site:

Thanks for that post, Mike.

Mike, thanks for posting this link. I relish photo's like these. I've always thought BCC looks to be one of Tillinghast best and best preserved. I know Shackelford has always thought alot of it.

Mike's post is an example of what the Tilly site now has to offer!

Enjoy it...

By the way, did you see Tilly standing out there?

The picture of the 6th green calls to mind the view from the fairway on #5 Walton Heath (Old).  I'm sure it's just me...

Philip,
I just wanted to add my compliments to Sean's on how well-organized and detailed the site is. I too have been mooching*
around the site for a while, and really think it's done right. Fine work, Philip.

(*Great word, Sean. In fact, I'm starting to build a whole new vocabulary for myself, based on yours - though if it was a golf handicap I'm not sure it would travel so well :)).

Damn, those golf holes look absolutely terrific.

I do need to get down there very soon.   Is it still anywhere near that good??

Mike, I played BCC a little over a year ago and even for my pathetic game it was a joy and pleasure. Play it when you can.

Peter and Mike, thanks for the compliments on the website. Most of the credit for it goes to Rick Wolffe and Bob Trebus who have done far more than anyone will ever know to make it a reality.

That answers my question about the trees today vs. 1925.   :-\

But really incredible preservation of the course over 80 years.  Nothing really seems to have changed except for the growth of the forests.   Beautiful place.

Oh, come on, Bill.  You didn't notice the gap in the trees
behind the 17th green that wasn't there in 1926?   8)

I'm just guessing the club did that for air flow reasons.

It is a wonderful place to play everyday and if you are in town let me know. I think Keith Foster did a terrific job with every hole but one. I think #13 is 10 yards too long, but hey, who's counting. I do know #1 & 2 (17 & 18 for the tournament) will be really tough. I can't wait to see how the big boys do on those holes. 2 should make a great finishing hole. You can make 3-? as there is OB left and you never know how those old nerves will handle the pressure.

Sean -

They are two different angles on #5. That green is huge so I can't imagine any shrinkage going on. #8 is also pretty much the same. I actually thought it looked smaller back in 1926. I know there is a slight rise on the front left of the green which may obscure a portion of the green making it seem smaller.

Sean -

That is a different angle on #5. The front left is still there. It may be missing from #8 as that green is not as square as it seems from 1926. It is certainly not that much of a difference. The biggest change is the tilt from left to right. It looks so flat in '26, but it certainly kicks left to right now.
