Marmite Golf Courses!
« on: June 28, 2007, 04:44:33 PM »
I was looking at peoples comments about Irish courses, over different websites and I noticed for Pat Ruddys European Club every-one either thought it was with or above St Andrews and RCD and they loved it, or despised it 200%. The negitive comments alway got the "Ruddy Strikes Back" treatment, the man is 10 times better than Simon Cowell.(Dopes anyone have Pat's E-Mail Address as I have lost contact with him?)

Anyway back to the point, The European Club was either Loved or Hated. No-one said it was Good/OK. It is a bit like the toast spread Marmite that everyone loves or hates. So I thought what other golf courses aspire such feelings and I made a list:

The European Club

Old Head

Kingsbarns

The Belfery

Oakmont

TPC Sawgrass

PGA West

Whistling Straits

What courses do you think sould be added or taken away from this list?

What does the 'Marmitines' have in common?

Is designing a 'Marmitine' course good or bad? ie. Lots of Pete Dye

I've never tasted Marmite but if it's approved by the FDA, I'll try it.

Taste anything like Vegemite? 100 million Aussies can't be wrong.

Anyway, though Sir John of Kavanaughty Kingdom disagrees, Torrey Pines South was once dubbed here the "Buttercup" champ of golf courses.  It features nice whether though.

I think Tobacco Road is the modern US poster child

Never tried it. Their advertising campaign was far too effective on me and I just agreed that I'd probably hate it.  :)

Pebble Beach... you either love it all, or you think it's 7 good holes and 11 boring holes played over a field.

Carnoustie gets some of this reaction.
